The U14G 1st team played two matches back in the last of their regional games to get their placement for the regional finals tournament in 2 weeks time.

The first game versus St Albans was very tight throughout the game. Ipswich had most of the possession but struggled to breakthrough and get a goal in the first half. They battled and battled and then in the second half managed to get a pair of goals to secure the win from Summer and Millie.

The second game was versus the home team Saffron Walden. Again it wasn’t until the second half the team really made the most of the dominant play they had had and secured two goals in quick succession from Millie H, this was then followed by a great team goal slotted in by Iduun.

Special mention goes to Alice and Emma who stepped up, conquering their nerves and played their first game for the 1st team. It was great opportunity as they will be key members of this team next season and they were both very brave and really got stuck in… well done girls.

The defence was solid with Mille, Jemima and Freya linking really well and transferring the ball well. Freya’s experience from the indoor training really showed as she picked up lots of balls on her backhand with a low block tackle.

The midfield of Annabel, Millie, Sophie and Maisie worked so hard all game. They were up and down the pitch but most impressive was when they started passing the ball early and getting around the opposing side.

Upfront Summer, Betsy and Millie battled hard to get through some tough defensive setups and a couple of very good GK’s. Talking of GK’s, Eva once again suffered from having a very competent defensive unit in front of her as she had very little to do all day. The whole team felt for her as she had a very quiet day…but at least it was warm and sunny!

Well done girls, I hope you realise how far your play has come on in a few months. It was a pleasure to watch today.

Now the final league matches have been played the East Region coordinator will work out who plays who and therefore who is best to host the various finals. As soon as we hear we will share the location and timings.
