A strong start saw Ipswich link together passes and look confident going forward, but it was Canterbury who caught them on the break by overloading the defence and slotting into the goal for a 1-0 lead. Before Ipswich even had time to regroup, a scramble in the D saw them go 2-0 down followed by a fumble just before quarter time to give the home side 3 goals.
Ipswich regrouped well following a positive input during the break from experienced Bamfield and were unlucky not to score with the ball hitting the posts 3 or 4 times before Canterbury managed to clear.
The midfield consisting of player of the match Kate Wingar, Mary Sacker, Kat Blake and Sophie Sexton moved the ball well through to the forward line who began to get deserved outcomes in the D.
It looked like youngster Jess Logan would score when she had chance for a shot at the top of the D, but Canterbury snatched the ball back at the last second.
Ipswich finally capitalised on an attacking PC with Blake firing an awkward ball into the bottom corner beating the keeper.
With legs starting to tire, Wingar kept the girls going by putting in a shift both defending and attacking, sprinting the length of the pitch.
But it wasn’t meant to be, with a cool drag from the top, Canterbury took a 4-1 win with Ipswich again disappointed with the score line.
The girls are still in the race to stay in the league needing maximum points from the final two games against Wimbledon 2s and Bromley & Beckenham. Next Saturday sees the final home game of the season as top of the league Wimbledon 2s travel to St Jo’s.
