Debuts. Saves. Goals. 3 Points!

The Women’s 1s first national league game started with a long old journey down to Horsham. 3 and a half hours later, Ipswich arrive onto the pitch with only a 15 minutes warm up under their belts!

Ipswich feeling pushed for time on the whistle and under the pump, they stepped up to the mark straight away winning a penalty corner. Unfortunately not converting, Ipswich did continue to keep the pressure on Horsham. However, Horsham matched our girls and found themselves winning a couple of short corners before the end of the first quarter but, Player of the match, GK Ali Barham, denied them a look in!!

Second quarter underway and Ipswich find themselves creating more and more opportunities. From the strong transfers and quick-ball from full back, Tilly Edwards, and sweet connections from Bea Noordhuis and Charlotte Satchwell finding forward, Taylor Ball down the line. Ipswich win a short corner and get themselves on the scoreboard with captain, Lucy Dunnett striking the ball right through the keeper’s legs!

Half time and Ipswich needed to keep their momentum going and not crumble. They maintained their composure for the third quarter with the help of the experienced Lizzy Wheelhouse and Emma Rix.

The final quarter Ipswich concreted and doubled their lead with May Percival scoring a sneaky reverse dink. Ipswich walk away from that game with a convincing 2-0 win and strong start out of the blocks!!

Some great stats for Ipswich Ladies 1s for their first game that deserve a mention. 14 penalty corners saved! 5 players debuting in national league: Megan Palmer, Bea Noordhuis, Sophie Moorhouse, Charlotte Satchwell and our youngest at 14 years old, Charlie Phillips. First win under our new/returning coach, Leonie.
