A weekend that offered plenty of questions. There were disappointments, certainly, but also glimpses of promise. The Women’s 2s came agonisingly close, edged out 2–3 vs St Neots, while the Women’s 5s fought hard before succumbing 1–3 to a well-drilled Framlingham side.
Elsewhere, the Women’s 1s have rediscovered their scoring touch, two wins on the bounce suggesting a team beginning to find rhythm. The Men’s 1s, by contrast, endured a frustrating 1-1 stalemate at Magpies—their second draw of the season. The early-season surge of four straight wins now feels a little distant, Broxbourne await on Saturday, 2pm at home.
The real intrigue lies with the Men’s 2s. Unbeaten thus far, Bott’s Boys have yet to face the league’s heavyweights—Colchester and IES 1s—but if they can navigate those tests, a title challenge is not beyond them.
The youth section continues its march: the Girls’ U14 1s and 2s were imperious at home, dispatching Loughts and Blueharts, while the Boys’ U12s took three sides to Magpies and returned with silverware. A fine effort all round.
Below, you’ll find the Women’s 1s’ account of their victory over local rivals BSE. They write reports win or lose—a habit we’d love to see spread more widely. For now, that’s all folks!
Best of blue to you all this weekend.

Women’s 1s report
The ladies 1 headed down the road to meet Bury knowing full well it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park.
Ipswich made a dream start when Captain Taylor Ball finding the backboard just four minutes in, setting the tone for a high-intensity match. Bury, however, responded almost immediately, equalising in the 6th minute to bring the score level. Flashbacks of their previous match came to mind but Ipswich refused to be rattled and quickly regained control of the game again. Their persistence paid off when they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 9th minute, which Lizzy Wheelhouse calmly converted to restore the lead. From that point on, Ipswich dictated play — showing composure in possession and real intent going forward.
Ipswich continued to press, and their pressure told midway through the first half when Chloe Williams slotted home in the 25th minute to make it 3–1. After the break, Williams struck again in the 48th minute, finishing neatly to give Ipswich a comfortable cushion.
Bury managed to pull one back from a penalty corner in the 38th minute, but Ipswich’s dominance never looked under threat. Their defensive unit stayed organised with GK Maddie White saving shots and second phases and PTOM Maisie Debanham composure on the ball. The links between the midfield continued to move the ball with pace and confidence.
With just a few minutes remaining, Sophie Sexton put the finishing touches on a superb team performance — scoring her first goal of the season in the 67th minute to seal the victory and round off an impressive 5–2 win.
It was a commanding performance from start to finish, full of energy, teamwork, and attacking flair. The result gives Ipswich plenty of confidence and momentum heading into training this week, as preparations begin for their upcoming clash with Upminster.
