SEVEN sponsored Ipswich dominated this crucial Investec East Conference game but were not able to find the winner they deserved.
Ipswich, back under head coach Sandie Lister started this game in great style, putting the away team under pressure but despite the dominance the Suffolk side could not get the early goal they were looking for. Maidenhead were looking for the long ball to a high forward but some good defending by Kat Blake and Emma Fairhead saw those opportunities snuffed out. Then on the 14th minute Ipswich undid the good work as they lost the ball on the right and the Maidenhead striker took the chance to bury the ball into the goal.
Ipswich re-grouped quickly and were soon creating chances of their own, captain Emma Millar probably with the best chance but she made the decision to pass when shooting would have been the better option. The visitors also had a good chance from a penalty corner but Mariette Rix in the Ipswich goal showed her class by pulling off a great save.
Half time saw Lister tweak a few things and with a large squad she was able to rotate personal. One of those changes saw Hermione Hatfield on at right back and her introduction sparked Ipswich into action.
The home team were now camped in the visitors half and won a string of corners after some great work by Shen Dedic, Georgia Davies and Sophie Sexton. Despite some great chances Ipswich were denied by some good saves and poor finishing and the visitors were clinging on to their lead.
Finally on the 57th minute Heather Dixon showed some composure in the circle and placed the ball past the diving keeper to score her first ever national league goal and bring Ipswich level.
With 13 minutes to go and cheered on by a vocal crowd Ipswich stepped up their game again. The visitors were now under lost of pressure and starting to give the ball away on numerous occasions. Ipswich once more created chances but again were frustrated by just watching them narrowly miss. Lucy Dunnett created the best opportunity but her shot narrowly skimmed the wrong side of the post.
The game ended with the score at 1-1, a result neither team wanted but it was Ipswich that knew they had let their opponents off the hook.
Despite not getting the win they wanted Ipswich feel positive and will work hard this week at training to ensure that over the next 4 remaining games they give themselves the best possible chance of getting the wins they need to get off the bottom of the table.
Next Saturday they travel to Harleston.
