Match Report: Ipswich Women’s 5s vs. IES3
Following a high-scoring victory against IES4 the previous week, Ipswich Women’s 5s returned to home turf with energy and determination, ready to take on IES3 and chase a repeat performance.
From the first whistle, Ipswich applied relentless pressure, keeping the ball locked in the opposition's half and disrupting IES3’s attempts to break through. Their early dominance paid off in the first quarter with a short corner. Alice and Frankie executed a slick right-slip routine—Alice pushed out to Frankie, who slipped it straight back to Alice, and she powered it into the back of the net to put Ipswich 1-0 up.
IES3, eager to respond, worked hard to push back against the Ipswich press. In a rare attacking break, they managed to run the ball into the D and finished well to bring the score level at 1-1.
Heading into halftime, the teams were evenly matched. Coach James and players alike rallied to keep up the pressure, with a renewed focus on structured defence and deep positioning to guard against counter-attacks.
Frankie continued to shine down the right flank with aggressive runs that spurred the forwards on. One of her perfectly placed crosses found Ebs in the D, who made no mistake with the finish—restoring Ipswich’s lead at 2-1.
The defence stood strong with standout performances from Eliza and Linda, while Sukie showed excellent control and skill with her roll-outs. Midfield powerhouses Clare, Jia, and India charged through the centre, while Nareen, Jess, Jock, and Laura provided consistent defensive support and confidently recycled the ball back into attacking positions.
In a nail-biting twist, IES3 managed another breakaway and scored the equaliser, celebrating as if they’d won the match. Ipswich weren’t done yet. With determination to seal a win, they surged forward again. A quick break saw the ball reach Ebs, who found herself one-on-one with the keeper. Her shot was well-struck and brushed by the goalkeeper's pads—but heartbreakingly, it drifted just wide of the post as the final whistle blew.
A thrilling match that ended 2-2, but one that showcased excellent teamwork, relentless effort, and strong performances across the pitch.
MOM: Frankie – for her dynamic and dangerous runs down the right wing.
DOD: Chantelle – for the classic pre-match question: “What’s the score?”
Well played, Ipswich 5s!
