Umpires

One of the most important things you need in a hockey match and the most overlooked are the umpires.  Below is a list of all our registered umpires. If you do not have umpires allocated by your league then you need to look at this list and DO NOT USE any one who is not on it!

15th August
Level 1 Umpire Course

Sunday 13th September 2009, 9.30am – 4.00pm

Venue: Ipswich HC, Henley Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 4NJ

  • Are you aged 16+?
  • Do you love the game of hockey?
  • Do you want to become more involved in the game but don’t know how?

Then come along to the Suffolk Level 1 Umpire Award and develop your umpiring skills.

This course is suitable for young people aged 16 and above who have knowledge of hockey. Under 18 candidates who have not taken the Foundation Umpire Award should consider that course before taking the Level 1 course, although an application from a player or umpire who has appropriate umpiring experience and a good knowledge of the game and rules would be considered.

The Level 1 Umpire Award is the umpiring award relevant to the competitive game. It's educational and very worthwhile for anyone wanting to extend their hockey knowledge and develop their umpiring to the next level.

The award involves looking at the required umpiring skills and the Rules of Hockey are explained and demonstrated in depth. Candidates are given up to date information on umpiring from England Hockey.  After the course, candidates will independently organise practice games and finally, when the candidate umpire feels they are ready, they will complete an assessment game.

The course costs just £20 for the whole day and will include some England Hockey goodies such as whistle and a set of hockey warning cards just to mention a few.

You will require playing kit (including a stick!), a notebook, pen, pencil, and drinks for the day. Please be prepared for any British weather and bring waterproof clothing, a change of clothes, sun cream, hat etc! Lunch will be from 1 – 2pm – bring your own packed lunch or enjoy the bar area at Henley Road.

To book a place on the course please send the application form including experience of hockey/umpiring along with a cheque for £20 made payable to SCHUA to:-
