Ipswich 1's v IES REsult: won 2-1 (A Nunn, N Miller)

The start of the summer league got underway last night with old firm rivals IES playing Ipswich Hockey Club, in what turned out to be a very even, friendly game. Ipswich began to lose their shape a bit into the last 10 minutes of the first half, IES got a penalty corner and struck the ball well from the top of the D to slot past the Ipswich defence before they had a chance to react. Ipswich had to answer back with a quick counter attack, with a few quick substitutions Ipswich were on the break, Annie Nunn, Nic Miller and Nicola Keely passing the ball between them. Annie Nunn caught on the break with only a couple of defenders in the D gave Ipswich the draw going into the second half. Matched by both pace and skill the score remained 1-1 for almost all of the second half. Both sides attacking well, Ipswich though really fighting for the ball, Trina and Annie had numerous strikes on goal but unable to convert. Into the dying minutes of the game Sue Whiting and Nicola Miller made a superb run up the right, Sue passed the ball to Nic Miller hovering at the right of the D, who took it in and scored with a long rage shot just on the edge of the D. The whistle blew for Full Time - it couldn't have been a closer fought game.
