Slazenger EHL

Women’s Premier League

Ipswich v Canterbury

14.00 Tuddenham Road

There is one word that describes Ipswich’s attitude to their next Slazenger EHL Premier League game, at home against Canterbury, on Saturday and that is determined.

The squad are determined to learn from last weeks defeat, determined to perform better and determined to get their pride back.

“Last week’s match against Slough is certainly one we wish to forget about in a hurry” Said Ipswich Captain Vic Sandall “but I know the team will want to regain some pride in their own performances this weekend. Putting it quite simply – we didn’t compete last weekend and this is not what is expected at our club. This game gives us a chance to lay those demons to rest and prove we can play better”

It will not be an easy task though for the team as they face a Canterbury side that beat Chelmsford 7-0 last weekend and have yet to lose a game.  The Kent side started off slowly in the league recording four straight draws but they seem to have found their goal scoring touch in recent weeks and Ipswich will need to be alert to the dangers of ex-Ipswich forwards Cathy Gilliat-Smith and Jenny Hall.

Ipswich keeper Mariëtte Rix, who was injured in the warm up last weekend, seems to have made a full recovery and she will be looking to get one over on her South African team mate Jenny Wilson, who plays in Canterbury’s midfield.

Ipswich will be without Lizzy Aldous who still has a knee injury but have called 2nd Team Captain Anni Broster into the squad as cover.

With only three games left before the Christmas break and with the last two of those against the bottom teams Ipswich know how crucial the coming weeks will be.

 Sunday 16th November

Canterbury v Ipswich

Away 1.30pm

After a disappointing defeat and below par performance against Old Loughtonians last weekend, things don't get any easier for Ipswich Mens 1st XI as they travel to Canterbury to take on the league leaders.

Despite the backing of a large crowd and on the back of an encouraging win against Peterborough, Ipswich were unable to raise their game sufficiently to challenge Old Loughts who proved to have just too much strength all round.

This weekend the squad knows that nothing less than total commitment and being at the top of their performance levels will do as anything less is bound to end in defeat.

There may be a number of players unavailable - Jonny Gall has School Regional Indoor Hockey commitments and Matt Stainthorpe suffered a hamstring injury during Sundays game which will be assessed before this weekend, however, coach Iain Gall can still select from a squad of players who have raised their game on several occasions before this season and th team still remain optimistic that they can get a surprise in Kent. One of the plus points from Sundays game was the performance of skipper, Ivan Smith who, after injury problems earlier in the season looked to be getting back to his best form.

Sundays game starts at 1.30pm
