Ellis
fights for Olympic dream.
Still
suffering from the effects of her injury in Australia back in
January, Ipswich's star player Jo Ellis is in the GB squad
that faces Argentina in 2 test games at Reading Hockey Club
and will be hoping she can turn in a performance that proves
she is on the way back to full fitness.
The
first game was on the 12th May and saw GB lose 3-2. The sides
play again tonight.
Good
luck Jo we are all willing you on!

Season
officially over and it's another good year for the Club
After
9 months of hockey, the Ipswich Hockey fixtures are now officially
completed for another season. There have been ups and
downs amongst the teams but overall the picture is a good
one. 3 promotions , 1 National Title, 2 East
League Titles , 1 Suffolk Cup, 1 Suffolk Veterans
Title, 2 Suffolk Indoor Titles, 1 National indoor Semi-final and only 1 relegation.
The
main highlights are the Men's 3's, 4's, 5's and the Vets, who
all either won their league or won promotion, with the Vets
over 40 team also winning their first ever National Title.
However
several other sides cannot not be overlooked including both
1st Teams. The Men started the season with a new coach in the shape
of Iain Gall and not even sure which players they would have
in their squad, with several youngsters who were making a huge
step up from the East hockey League. A great opening day win
against Oxted though set the stall out and with the restructuring
of the league they team knew that also as long as they avoided
relegation they would effectively win promotion to Div 1. This
they achieved and they look forward to next season and a new challenge.
The Women's 1's also had a new coach, Royce Waters and they
too had a good first part of the season rising to 5th place
before the Indoor break. Indoor too was another success, the
team made the National indoor Finals night for the 4th year
running but once more lost at the semi-final stage, losing 7-6
to Bowdon Hightown but not after after staging an amazing
comeback from 6-1 to level the scores at 6-6. The second half
of the outdoor season saw the squad hit very hard by injuries,
work commitments and also a pregnancy! This had a knock on
effect and a poor run of results saw the team battling hard to
stay out of the relegation fight. This they did with a hard
earned point at Chelmsford to finish in 7th place. Not the
best of results but one that highlighted the teams battling qualities.
The
Club also has had 6 players selected for National sides. Jo
Elli (GB & England Women), Jenny Hall (England U21), Chloe
Hunnable (England U16), Josh Godfrey (England U16), Jonny Gall
(England U16), Mickey Franklin (England U16)
Thank
you to all the people who work so hard to make this club a success,
on and off the pitch, you really do make the difference and
here's to another great season.

Men's
Vets add clubs 13th National Title
Ipswich
Men's Veterans teams had a superb weekend and just missed out
on a unique double. The Vintage over 50's side put up a great
battle coming back form 2-0 down to level the scores at
2-2 but they narrowly lost 3-2 to a skillful Indian
Gymkhana side. The Over 40's Veterans side went one
better beating East Grinsted 3-0 to claim Ipswich first ever
National title for the Men's Veterans.
It
was a fitting end to the season for Ipswich and the vets in
particular and a huge congratulations must go to all the
players and Captain fantastic the 79 year old Johnny Gordon.
Pictures
to follow shortly!

The
teams will travel to Old Loughtonians on Sunday 4th May to
play East Grinsted in the Veterans Cup (14.30 start) and
