Ipswich
v Trojans
Result: 7-0
(S Bamfield (3), T Barnard (3), L Aldous)
Trojans missed early opportunities, with Ipswich Keeper Hannah Robinson keeping out the shots from Trojans Alex Danson. Ipswich played with excellent discipline and the midfield kept possession of the ball, drawing in the Trojans defence, then linking with the forwards of Bamfield and Barnard who gave the keeper no chance. Trojans maintained three forwards high in the Ipswich half in the hope of scoring on the counter attack but could not break the defensive line of Waddleton, Spooner, Spencer, Anderson and
Muir. The game result will be a bitter blow to the confidence of the league newcomers, Trojans, but Ipswich were commanding in their team play and coach Sandie Lister felt that the result reflected the attacking play of Ipswich.
Sarah Bamfield and Tanya Barnard both scored their first League hat
tricks against Trojans, with Lizzie Aldous making it seven. |

Cambridge
University v Ipswich
2nd's
Result: 0-2
( E Millar, J Gray)
Despite taking all 3 points and maintaining their unbeaten start in the Printwize East premier League Ipswich are fully aware that 2-0 scoreline does not tell the whole story. The match started at frenetic pace and the students used all their pace and enthusiasm to keep Ipswich on the back foot.
Ipswich were finding it hard to keep the ball and the students started to create chance after chance. However the new defensive unit of Katie Lawrence, Amanda Little, Dawn Course and Becky Lawrence held firm and with some outstanding keeping by Kate Bond in the Ipswich goal the students were kept at bay. Ipswich entered half time fully ware that they had to raise the standard of their passing and they started the second half with much more composure.
Within 10 minutes Ipswich gained a well-earned short corner and Captain Emma Millar deflected a well-struck shot by Player of the Match Sarah Juggins past the stranded Cambridge keeper. The students after creating so many chances were shell-shocked and their game play started to fall apart. Ipswich were now in control of the match and the whole team seemed full of new confidence. The students however continued to attack and only several last minute crucial tackles by the hard working defence kept the Cambridge side out.
With 5 minutes left another sweeping move involving the outstanding Debbie Rawlinson saw Ipswich gain another short corner. This time it was Jo Gray who pounced on another Juggins rebound shot to finally claim all 3 points.
The students were left feeling rather hard done by but the experience of Ipswich and their ability to take their chances should be a lesson that the students would do well to heed.
The whole Ipswich team worked very hard for this result and with several new players settling in it was a very satisfying result. Newcomers Folkestone will prove an unknown test at home on Saturday but on this form Ipswich will have nothing to fear.

Ipswich
3rd's v UEA
Result:
3-2 ( F Shaw (2), T Walton)
The 3'rds played UEA this weekend, after a strong start, they took an early lead with a beautifully struck ball played in to the D by Vicky
Dixon which took a deflection of Fiona Shaw. The score remained 1- 0 to Ipswich for the rest of the first half, with the home side gaining
most of the possession. UEA started the second half well and scored an early equaliser, but Ipswich stepped up the pace and scored
again almost immediately with Vicky Dixon and Fiona Shaw combining again. Ipswich pressed home the advantage and Captain Tory
Walton scored from a well rehearsed penalty corner! UEA managed to score a second goal, meaning the final score was 3-2 to Ipswich, an
excellent team effort.

Haverhill
2nd's v Ipswich 4th's
Result: 1-0
The game opened with a strong attack from the Haverhill forwards, but was
held back by staunch defence, particularly by the new on-pitch ex-goalie Sam
Bennett. The rest of the first half remained a closely fought battle, but
saw no goals from either team. Haverhill forwards managed a break though shortly after half time with a
good strike from Elaine Ward. Despite some excellent mid-field play Ipswich
were unable to equalise, leaving the final score at 1-0.

Ipswich
5th's v Carlton Park 2nd's
Result:0-3
For a team that seemed, skills wise, no better than ourselves Carlton Park
II unfortunately beat us 3-0. The first was let in by goal keeper, Nareen
Fenton, through a stupid in front of goal blunder, second goal was a
deflection and the third an own goal. Sarah Youngman got voted man of the match by Carlton Park II, and our team
voted for Sam Mortenson, who considering hasn't played for a few years was
very strong defensively for the team.
Although a bad result for us, the team played well and sprits are still high
that we can only improve as the season goes on. This is a new team who
haven't played together before so things can only get better!!

Friendly
Ipswich 4's
v Harleston 4's
Result:
2-0 (Leach, Frost)
A superbly organised team effort saw the 4's complete an unbeaten friendly
campaign,. Leach continually peppered the Harleston goal while Frosts mazy
runs penetrated the opposing D. This was only bettered by the tireless work
of left half, Miller and former 2nd team stalwart Ringrose, who belied his
years to produce some of his best hockey. Team coach, Beales, is looking forward to next weeks champagne fixture at
Wapping.
