EHL Conference East

Ipswich v Northampton Saints

Result: Won 6-0

Scorers : E Millar (2), J Bloom (2), A Broster, C Anderson

National Conference East league leaders Ipswich stretched their unbeaten run to 6 games and once more kept a clean sheet as they outplayed and outclassed a hard working Northampton Saints team.

Ipswich ran out 6-0 winners and more pleasing than the result was the manner of victory which saw the Suffolk side get back to playing some great team hockey.

Missing coach James Kingstone, who had National League playing commitments, Ipswich could have been forgiven for feeling nervous but assistant coach Kirsten Spencer ensured that the build up was consistent and the Team responded with one of the best performances of the season so far.

The game could not have started better with co-captain Emma Millar scoring her first goal of the season on the 6th minute. A great run down the right by Millie McWhirter saw her slip the ball to Millar on the far post and she made no mistake rifling the ball in over the keeper.  4 minutes later Ipswich were 2-0 up Charlie Anderson scoring her first ever National League goal from a short corner strike.

The home side were now in total control and on the 19th minute Jess Bloom got a deserved goal after some tremendous work down the left hand side of the pitch.

Ipswich then saw a further chance by Mille McWhirter cleared off the line as Northampton struggled to contain the home side.

With half time approaching Millar struck again first to react to a good save at a short corner she rammed the ball home to score her second goal of the game and her 20th National League goal for Ipswich.

4-0 up at half time the home team could have taken their foot of the gas but this side are determined to keep improving and they once more concentrated on playing some good team hockey.

With Northampton chasing shadows, Ipswich extended their lead to 5-0 on the 43rd minute. Anni Broster scoring her first National League goal with a good reverse stick finish.

On the 60th minute Jess Bloom wrapped it up with her second of the game, deflecting in a shot on the far post.

It was a satisfying and impressive performance by Ipswich but they are aware that tougher challenges lie ahead.  Because of a break in the National league fixtures next weekend the Suffolk side will  have to wait until the 6th November to continue their quest for the league title away against 5th placed Horsham.

Ipswich v Lowestoft

Result: Lost 3-0

Scorers:

Ipswich hosted 4th placed Lowestoft at Tuddenham Road on Saturday. Although fielding a squad of 15 Ipswich were carrying several injuries. Lowestoft opened play with an early attack, but then possession was reasonably evenly distributed between the 2 teams until the ball rolled over the Ipswich goal line following a Lowestoft attack. Ipswich then had a spell of trying to force the ball through to attack, but each time this was intercepted by the Lowestoft press, soon leading to a second goal. Towards the end of the first half Ipswich began to gain control of the game, utilising the switch around the back effectively and passing in simple triangles to beat the Lowestoft players, however they were unable to score before half time. Half-time score: 2-0 to Lowestoft.

In the second half, Lowestoft scored a 3rd goal early on. Ipswich kept their heads up and began to work better as a team breaking through the Lowestoft midfield with driving runs from Kat Wrinch and Lucy Gallagher in centre midfield. Ipswich continued to battle until the final whistle trying to create opportunities in attack, but unable to convert these into goals. Full-time score: a disappointing 3-0 to Lowestoft. Lowestoft have now replaced Ipswich at the top of East Div 1 North and Ipswich now sit in 4th place with 12 points.

Suffolk Ladies Division 1

Newmarket 3s v Ipswich 5s

Result: 2-4

Scorers: Keziah Green, Ellen Turner, Linda Walker, Lou Clarke

Ipswich had a slow start to the game and were without a few regular players. Newmarket scored early on, and this inspired Ipswich to up their game and they began to dominate, with Keziah Green scoring a great goal, after very strong attacking play from the midfielders and forwards. Shortly before half time, Linda Walker scored another goal, making the score 2-1 at the break. In the second half Maddie Askins and Fiona Parker came on, with Fiona playing her first game for the club. They both made a huge impact on the strength of the play, working together very well as right forward and right midfield, and using their speed very much to Ipswich’s advantage. Early in the second half, as a result of great passing between Francesca, Ellen and Fiona, Ellen Turner scored a very good goal. Following this Ipswich eased the pressure on Newmarket and unfortunately this gave them the opportunity to score a second goal. However Ipswich soon regained possession with Lou Clarke scoring our next goal, bringing the score to 4-2 Ipswich continued to create more chances, with player of the match Keziah Green being particularly strong in the attack. Throughout the game Ipswich communicated and passed very well.
