Ipswich
entertained Bedford in a rearranged vets league fixture and completely
demolished the visitors to set a record result exceeding the 15-2 result
against Cambridge South last season and gain revenge for a defeat at Bedford
last year.
Bedford were hampered by not having a
specialist goalkeeper but none the less he made a series of excellent saves
throughout the game. Bedford started the game well and created a number of
half chances before Ipswich took the lead in bizarre circumstances. A right
wing cross was helped on by Curzon in the circle, he cannoned off a
defenders foot and looped into the goal; with most players expecting a short
corner the ever alert umpire correctly awarded a goal. This prompted Ipswich
to step up a gear and the speed of Foster and Askins was a constant threat
to the Bedford defence and goals flowed at regular intervals. Tew after
several thumping efforts from corners managed to score with a deflection on
the stroke of half time to give a half time score of 9.
Whilst not quite reaching the heights
of the first half Ipswich did manage to score at regular intervals and the
visitors, who battled on gamely were reduced to the occasional foray and
indeed had they been as clinical as Ipswich they may well have prevented the
Ipswich clean sheet.
Next week sees the Vets taking on the
up and coming players from the 5th team and the following week return to
league action against Cambridge City and a win then will see Ipswich head
the league for the first time this season.

Ipswich
v Cambridge City
Result:
Won 14-4
Scorers:
Cook (8), Glading (2), Palmer, Askins, Crowe, Palmer
Ipswich moved to the top of the league
at the half way stage with a convincing victory against Cambridge City,
early exchanges were very close and at this stage the ultimate result was
unexpected, but gradually Ipswich territorial advantage began to pay
dividends as Cook scored twice, and then Glading added his pair from
Foster's crosses. It was surprising that man of the match Foster failed to
add his name to the goalscorers, especially as he laid on the final pass for
most of the home teams goals.
A 4 - 0 half time lead was soon
extended as the Ipswich attack began to run rings round the Cambridge
defense, with goals appearing at regular intervals, and Cook in particular
rattling in some spectacular efforts which the visitors goalkeeper managed
to get out of the way of. Cambridge managed to score from a short corner,
with Langton unable to save on the line. In between the Cook show, Askins,
Crowe and Palmer scored and then Gall scored his first goal for the vets
after ghosting forward from midfield.
Inexplicably the Ipswich defense
seemed to relax and loose concentration to allow Cambridge some consolation
as they rattled in 3 late goals.
