BTexact Ipswich v
Old Loughtonians
Results: 0-3, 1-0 ( K Spencer)
The 1's travelled to Old Loughtonians for their final friendly but due
to a major traffic hold up had to play without a keeper for the first
half. The opposition took advantage scoring 3 goals but both sides knew
that none of the shots would have tested a keeper. Ipswich started the
2nd half with a keeper and the game at last was a true reflection of
play. Ipswich began to move the ball with purpose and it was no surprise
when Kirsten Spencer scored from a short corner to see Ipswich win
the 2nd half 1-0.

Ipswich2's v Old
Loughtonians
Result: 2-1 (E Millar, A
Little)
The
2's also travelled to play Old Loughtonians 2nd team on
Sunday but were disappointed to arrive and find the opposition
only had 5 players. Several Ipswich 1st team players kindly volunteered to
play for Old Loughts to enable the 2's to get a game , rather surprisingly
the Old Loughts 1st team players did not seem so keen to help their 2nd team
out. The game was an open affair with Old Loughts scoring first (through
Ipswich's Vic Sandall) but Ipswich hit back strongly with some great runs by
Hannah Golding and scored 2 well deserved goals via Emma Millar and Amanda
Little.

Men’s HA Cup
West Herts 2,
Ipswich 3
(Scorers - I Smith, S Miller, R Stainthorpe)
Ipswich marched into the second round of the HA Cup despite travelling to West Herts with just 11 players,
three of which were injured. Richard Fox (calf), Ivan Smith (groin) and Richard Stainthorpe (back)
were left with no option but to play themselves due to player unavailability
for this match. However, the gamble paid off with this impressive victory, against a side which beat Ipswich twice last year.
The game was a feisty, scrappy affair for most of the first half, with the umpires struggling to take control of the game. After ten minutes
Ivan Smith put Richard Stainthorpe through on goal only for the striker to pass back to Smith who finished clinically. However, a defensive
mix-up lead to an equaliser ten minutes before half time.
After the goal Ipswich lost their shape and became frustrated with themselves before the end of the half. James Smith received a green card
for a bad tackle, and Ipswich were lucky to still have all their players on the pitch at the break.
Ipswich took control at the start of the second half, winning a penalty corner without Herts touching the ball, which Miller calmly slotted past
the ‘keeper. Stainthorpe made it three after 45 mins with a reverse stick flick over the oncoming keeper, which took the game out of the
home sides reach. Herts looked keen to drag themselves back into the match, but were
thwarted on many occasions by the solid defence of Rais, Palmer, Walker and Swindin, as well as some superb goalkeeping by Tony Birch. However,
the sending off of Miller for a seemingly harmless challenge caused concern. Herts grabbed a consolation goal one minute before the end, but
it was Ipswich who move into the next round.
Next week Ipswich face Bourne at Henley Road as the new league season
gets underway. Right-back Matthew Stainthorpe is the only player
unavailable due to damaged ankle ligaments.

Ipswich 3's
v IES 2's
Friendly
Result: 5-2
(Foster, Fletton, Bromley (2) Smith)
Ipswich took the field against IES 2nd team in the heat of the afternoon sun with four players having just played a whole game for second team in the victory against IES first team. IES started the game far better with Ipswich repeatedly giving the ball away in dangerous parts of the pitch. IES took the lead following a series of Ipswich errors.
But after that Ipswich gradually took command and scored three times by half time via Bromley, Foster (keeping up his goal a game start to the season) and an astonishing strike by Fletton. The second half was a slower affair with both sets of players tiring but a second goal by Bromley in his last game as a 17 year old and a fine individual effort by Adam Smith ended with Ipswich running out 5-2 winners - another sloppy defensive slip towards the end gave IES a consolation.
Whilst the performance was patchy at best it was encouraging for Ipswich to defeat a team in the same Division 3SE league so comprehensively in a pre-season friendly but the standard will need to improve if points are going to be taken against Chelmsford 3rd team in the first league match on the 27th. However whatever happens on that game all the team are looking forward to Bromley buying a jug after the game to celebrate his 18th birthday.

Ipswich 4's
v Sudbury
Friendly
Result: 2-2
(G Pengelly, R Sebborn)
Again, the 4th team made life difficult for themselves due to a couple of defensive errors in the first half. An umpiring mistake led to a short corner that should have been stopped
and put Sudbury 1-0 up much against the run of the play after 10 minutes and then they scored again due to poor marking. Good play down the left flank allowed Guy Pengelly to pull one back to make it 2-1 at half time.
The second half was entirely different. Although Sudbury were by far the younger team,
Ipswich worked very hard and dominated the whole of the second half. Rob Sebborn was unlucky not to equalise from a short corner and it began to look as if Ipswich would not be able to turn pressure into goals. However, shortly before the end, Ipswich received yet another short corner and, this time Rob found the back of the net.
It was obvious at the start of this game that several players had not found their form. However, things started to come together in the second half and Ipswich were unlucky not to win.
