BTexact Ipswich
Canterbury Tournament

Results: 1-0, 1-1, 1-8, 0-0

BTExact Ipswich can look back on this weekend with much satisfaction. With a much changed side from last season Ipswich were not too sure what to expect but the team gelled from the start and played with real grit and determination all weekend.

Despite a disappointing loss on the Sunday Ipswich were not disheartened knowing that a lack of subs and the unseasonably high temperatures had played a large part.

New coach Kath Macdonald was very pleased with her squads progress and the real team spirit that has already emerged in the team.

Ipswich are still aware that they have a lot to work on before they start their league season on the 27th September but things are looking positive.

Suffolk league Div 1

Ipswich 5's v Mildenhall

Result: 3-0 walk over

Due to Mildenhall not being able to get a team together so early in the season, they had to withdraw their 6 player team. A shame as the 5's had no extra players to give to Mildenahll for a friendly. It would have been a good opportunity to have the juniors play in a non pressured/league game.

However must look positively at this and the fact that the 5's get their first win of the season!!

Ipswich 3's v Felixstowe 2's

Result: 5-2 (Hauxwell (3) Foster, Cutting)

Friendly match

A new look Ipswich 3rd team took to the field with a mix of the old (Williams, Fletton, Scarffe etc) and the older (Foster, Bignell and Pittaway) oh and a merry mix of youngsters (Hearne, Hauxwell, Messent and Bromley).

After Williams had added another calamitous own goal to his expanding catalogue the team went through a few gears and ended up comfortable 5-2 winners. Hauxwell scored a hatrick on his 3rd team debut and all the other youngsters performed admirably. Foster scored a neat deflection and Cutting a goal so memorable that the writer cant recall it.

But all in all a promising start to the season with highlights such as Fletton on his best behaviour with the umpires - has he turned a new leaf? and the fact that all the 3 under 16s managed to play a full game unlike the rest of the team who needed regular rests to recover from a summer of excess.

Next week bring on IES ......

4th's

Ipswich 4's v Braintree 2's

Result: 3-4 (Bristow 2, Sebborn)

Friendly match

Poor defending made this an up hill battle from very early on. Some very feeble tackling and poor marking allowed Braintree to take the lead after 10 minutes against the run of the play. It was not until 9 minutes from the end, when Matt Godbold dislocated his shoulder and had to be taken to hospital, that Ipswich finally woke up and scored 2 quick goals to make the score respectable.

This was disappointing as Braintree were promoted from the lower division at the end of last season. This was only a pre-league friendly but shows that a lot of work is needed if we are to do well in this division this season.

2 juniors were tried, Will Hearne and Tom Davey. Both played well and are good prospects for the future.
