Ipswich Vets v Cambridge City

Result: Won 11-2 (Foster 5, Glading 3, Curzon 2, Galbraith)

Ipswich Vets made an impressive start to the season against an under strength Cambridge side. The scoreline however, flattered Ipswich with Cambridge enjoying spells of domination but without threatening the Ipswich goalkeeper Ben Glading, filling in the Ipswich keepers Gordon and Steward who were both on international duty.

Cambridge started well but were stunned when Glading's short corner strike deflected off a defenders foot, leaving Curzon with a simple tap in on his debut. Within minutes the same player increased the Ipswich lead with a deft deflection past the goalkeeper after latching onto a fine through pass. Fosters pace, electrifying as usual was a constant threat and he took full advantage slotting home twice. The visitors kept playing and were unlucky when Glading in goal made a couple of excellent saves but he could do nothing when Cambridge pulled 1 back in the 29th minute.

The second half began much as the first had been with Cambridge enjoying good possession but their passing was letting them down, and Ipswich who were quick to counter attack took full advantage as the opposition defenders tired in the extreme heat. Curzon had several opportunities to complete his hat trick, but it was Glading senior who scored 3 typical poacher goals, Foster who brought his tally to 5 and right defender Galbraith who lumbered forward to power home an unstoppable shot from the top on the circle. Cambridge gained some consolation when scoring, coincidentally, in the 29th minute again.

The vets now have a couple of weeks off before they take on Kings Lynn Pelicans on 25th September.
