Women claim home win but Men crash out of Cup in golden goal.

The Women's 1st Team beat Poynton 2-1  to claim their first win of the new season. With a first goal for Spanish player Miriam Fabregas and  with Jo Ellis back in the squad it was a good weekend for the team. The Women 2's also won their first home game beating Tunbridge Wells 1-0 in a close match. The Women 3's thrashed Hadleigh 4-1 to see them top the East Div2 Central table. The 4's lost heavily 8-2 to IES 2's and the 5's also lost 2-0 to IES 3's.

The Men 1's shorn of East Youngsters due to a training weekend travelled to Cambridge to play the students in a cup game with a reduced squad. Despite a good battle they lost 3-2 in the golden goal period. The Men's 2's lost 3-2 to Cambridge City. The newly promoted Men's 3's lost 5-2 to Cambridge City 3's but the 4's destroyed Lowestoft Railway 8-1 and the 5's enjoyed an opening day win 1-0 over North Walsham 3's. Surprisingly the Vets lost to City of Peterborough but they did have to play the majority of the game with 10 men.

Some good Fantasy League performances this week, highlights being Ollie Holloway's 5 goals and 2 assists!

Women want home win as Men aim to do the double in the Cup.

The Women's 1st Team welcome newly promoted Poynton to Tuddenham Road and will be looking to claim a win on their opening home game of the season. Ipswich hope to welcome England International Jo Ellis into the team and her inclusion will certainly give the side an extra dimension. The Women 2's also play their first home game, facing Tunbridge Wells. The 2's will be keen to grab their first points and will be able to field a full squad. The Women 3's look forward to a short away trip to Gainsborough to play newly prompted Hadleigh and hope to continue with their winning ways. The 4's face local rivals IES 2's and with both teams recording wins last weekend something has to give. The 5's will be keen to get a win and play IES 3's.

The Men 1's have a weekend off from league action but face another trip to Cambridge to face the students in the cup second round.  With the league remaining the priority this will be an ideal opportunity to blood some new youngsters. The East league action starts in full for the men this weekend and the Men's 2's start with a tough game against Cambridge City. The newly promoted Men's 3's face Cambridge City 3's and will be keen to continue their good pre season form. The 4's face Lowestoft Railway, the 5's North Walsham 3's and the Vets travel to City of Peterborough.

With the Fantasy League also starting this weekend results, cards and goals will definitely become the talk of the bar, lets hope the flurry of 4 yellow cards last weekend is not repeatd!

Women get local draw.

The Women's 1st Team grabbed a plum tie against local Suffolk team Bury St Edmunds in the 2nd Round of the Cup. Bury play in the East Premier League, the same league as Ipswich 2's. The game will be 12 noon on Sunday 7th October at Tuddenham Road.

Women hold defending Champions, while Men taste first defeat.

The Women's 1st Team grabbed a last minute equalizer thanks to some brilliant pay by Leisa King. However they had chances to have made the game safe and will be disappointed with allowing their opponents 2 soft goals. The Women 2's also dominated possession but lost 3-1 to Wisbech.  The Women 3's started the season with a good 3-0 win over Yarmouth. The 4's destroyed Sudbury 3's 5-2 and enjoyed their first game back in the Suffolk Premier League. Unfortunately the newly formed 5's lost 7-2 against Sudbury 4's.

The Men 1's had a mixed weekend. They beat Cambridge University 3-2 on Saturday, with a first Ipswich goal for new recruit Mark Wheelhouse but then undid all their hard work with a unprofessional display and 3-1 loss against Bromley & Beckenham. The 2's played their last friendly and recorded an easy 6-0 win over Norwich City. The 3's also recorded a fine win 4-2 over Bishops Stortford 2's.The Vets started the defence of their title with a 4-0 win over Norwich Exiles.

20th September
Women start Slazenger EHL with tough away game, while Men fancy 6 points.

The Women's 1st Team face a testing opening match to the 2007-2008 Slazenger EHL Premier League season as they travel to Loughborough to play defending champions Leicester.  The Women will have been inspired by the Men's opening day win and hope to turn the form book on it's head.  With rumors circulating that Leicester will not be able to play any of their 7 current Internationals Ipswich are not sure what to expect when they arrive for the game but either way the Suffolk side will have a belief that they can get a result.  Despite missing the talents of Jo Ellis and Jenny Hall Ipswich are able to field a strong side and will be looking to start the season with a good performance.   The Women 2's also start their East Premier League season with an away game, a tough encounter against Wisbech.  This is is the first game for the 2's in the Premier League and is just reward for winning Div 1 North last season. It is a much changed squad with several new young players forcing their way into the setup.  The Women 3's also start their East Div2 Central fixtures. They face Yarmouth and this will be an interesting early test for this new development squad. The 4's kick of their first year in Suffolk Prem with a tough game against Sudbury 3's and the newly formed 5's start with a game against Suffolk 4's.

The Men 1's aim to build on their good start and have a double header weekend. Saturday they face newly promoted Cambridge University and after the students 5-2 education last weekend Ipswich will need to be wary of the backlash.  On Sunday the men play their first home game against Bromley & Beckenham. Last season Ipswich lost 4-0 but this is a much changed team and Ipswich will expect a better result. The rest of the men's side bar the veterans do not start their East League season until next weekend. The Vets are defending Champions and face Norwich Exiles at home.

17th September
Men's 1's turn form book on it's head as they start  Slazenger EHL with win.

Things could have not started any better for Ipswich Men this weekend. Having spent all summer searching for a coach and enough players to fill the team sheet Ipswich may have been forgiven for thinking getting a result against last years runners up was beyond them.   Instead they shrugged off the negatives travelled to Surrey and blew away last seasons runners up Oxted 4-2. With 2 goals from new Captain Ivan Smith and 1 a piece from debutants Ben Gallagher and Hungarian Tamas Horovitz it was the perfect display from the Suffolk team. With another debutant Mark Wheelhouse getting man of the match Ipswich seemed to have built a remarkable team in such a short space of time. Taking into account that the side were also missing 3 East U18 players the result is a true testament to the hard work that the players and coach Ian Gall have put in over the last month

Ipswich Women 1's also had a good weekend as they finished off their warm up for their league start next Saturday. Missing 5 players  the 2-2 draw with Canterbury was a pleasing result and is another step in the right direction for the team.

Ipswich Men's 2's continued their winning ways with a 4-2 win over Harleston 1/2's. Ipswich 3's also beat Harleston 3's 2-0, with the 4's winning 3-0. The 5's lost heavily 7-2 to Harleston 5's but the vets made sure of another victory with a  3-0 win over Harleston vets.

The Women 2's continued the winning run against our Norfolk neighbours a 1-0 win, with Kat Wrinch scoring the only goal. The 5's unfortunately lost 1-0 to IES 3's.

10th September
New look Men's side faces tough start in Slazenger EHL.

Ipswich Men start this seasons Slazenger EHL South campaign with a whole host of news faces and a new coach. Ipswich have signed a  3 year contract with coach Ian Gall with the aim to bring some long term structure and success to a team high on young talent.  While last years captain Will Fulker has moved to Surbiton due to excessive  travel Ipswich have brought in several outstanding replacements. In comes Royce Waters from Chelmsford and Mark Wheelhouse from Div 1 Brooklands. The team have also signed Australian Universities keeper Edward Martin.  With youngsters Ben Gallagher, Tom Dunnett and U18 player Phil Messent also developing rapidly things look very positive.

Ipswich will travel to Oxted on Sunday for their first fixture this season and will know that last year runners up will be a tough test for this new look side.  With a re-shuffle of the leagues at the end of the season Ipswich know that their prime objective is to retain their place in the National League this year  with the reward being Div 1 hockey next season.

3rd September

The Women won an eighth successive Suffolk Title on Sunday beating Lowestoft 2-0 i the final after remaining unbeaten in the round robin stage.
