Perfect start to season as all league games won.

The new look Men's 1st opened their 2006-2007 Slazenger EHL campaign with a convincing 4-1 win over the University of Birmingham.  With new signing Sean Gilmour and debutant U16 England star Will Hearne both getting on the score sheet Ipswich coach Kath Macdonald will be pleased with her teams great start.

New signing Sean Gilmour

The Men's 2's also started with a convincing win, routing Dereham 5-1 to see them lead the East League Premier A, however things will get tough next week as they play arch rivals and title hopefuls Harleston.

The Men's 3's showed the 2's how to clip the Magpies wings as they romped to a  5-0 win against Harleston 4's and also sit proudly at the top of the tree.

The Men's 4's also gained a superb early win beating Harleston 6's 7-2  and again are setting the pace in Div 5NE.

The Men's Vet's recorded the biggest win of the day though beating Bury St Edmunds 10-0. 4 goals by the goal hungry Peter Glading setting the tone for the season.

The Women's 2's also could not have had a better start, a 5-0 thrashing of Dereham sees them also leading the table.

The Women's 4's were the only losers of the day as they lost a friendly game to Felixstowe 2's 2-1 but with their leagues starting next weekend, hopefully things will get back on track.

Men 1's in opening game action as East and Suffolk League also kicks off the season.

The new look Men's 1st team open their 2006-2007 Slazenger EHL campaign with a Sunday home game against the University of Birmingham.  The squad has made several signings over the summer and also has promoted a handful of talented youngsters from the 2nd team so this opening game will be an interesting test. With a new goalkeeper in the shape of Scotland U21 keeper Andrew Middleton keen to impress on his debut Ipswich will be looking to claim their first 3 points at the expenses of the students.

The Men's 2's will be looking forward to their opening East League Premier A fixture against Dereham after winning promotion last season. Being a 2nd team in this league will be a hard challenge for the 2's but many players have top level experience and the squad has been training hard over the summer.

The Men's 3's face local rivals Harleston 4's and after only just missing out on promotion last season the 3's will be aiming for a good start to this campaign.

The Men's 4's also face a Harleston side, this time their 6th team and like the 3's they will be looking for a good win on the opening day.

The Men's Vet's take on Bury St Edmunds in their opening East League fixture. With a new look East league this season the vets will be keen to get a winning start.

The Women's 2's face a tough opening home game against Dereham but with a full squad of 16 players the team should have enough quality to take the 3 points.

The Women's 3's do not have a game as their fixtures start next weekend.

The Women's 4's though face Felixstowe 2's and again will be looking for a good start as they aim for promotion to the Premier League.

Women start pre-season well, as debutant Jenny Hall grabs her first goal.

The Women travelled to Chelmsford on Saturday and Sunday to take part in the annual PLUM Tournament.  Due to the National Premier League not starting until the end of October Ipswich are at the start of their preparations but this early run out against fellow National League teams was always going to be a good opportunity to blood new players.

Ipswich welcomed several new faces into the side, 17 year old Jenny Hall who has signed from Old Loughtonians and 22 year old Lucy Unwin, who has moved back to the area after graduating from University. The team also included 2nd team players Kat Wrinch ,Lucy Gallagher and Hannah Tallent who have been training with the 1’s over the summer and are pushing hard for a regular 1st team place.

Ipswich opened their games with a 0-0 draw against Barnes, Hounslow Ealing. they then faced their Essex rivals Chelmsford and came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1. 17 year old Jenny Hall scored her first goal for Ipswich in her debutant game and then last seasons top scorer Emma Lee-Smith fired in a short corner to clinch the win.

Sunday saw a tired Ipswich face St Albans and a sluggish display saw the Suffolk team draw 3-3 after being 3-1 down at one point.

The 2's travelled to Holcombe with a much changed side and several new faces but lost 3-1. With 3 players back for next weekend first league game the 2's will be able to field a much stronger side.

Ellis starts World Cup countdown

Ipswich's Jo Ellis will be counting the days until Thursday when the England Women's Team flies out to Spain to prepare for the Women's World Cup. England first game against China on is on Wednesday 27th September and Jo will be hoping that the team start with a good win. Eurosport will be showing the games so turn on that TV and cheer Jo and England on.

Lucky Seven for Suffolk Champions

Ipswich entered 2 teams in the Suffolk Cup and the 'A' team were eventual winners, beating last years runners up Sudbury 4-0 in the final.

Dressed in their SEVEN sponsored kit it was very apt that this is the seventh time in the cups eight year history that Ipswich has won the crown and it was two second team players that stole the limelight.

Champions in seventh heaven

Back Row (Left to right) L Aldous, K Spencer, T Spencer, C Gould, H Tallent, E Millar, V Sandall

Front Row: (left to Right) F Lane, A Little, K Wrinch (Cpt), L Gallagher, E Masson, S Bennett

Striker Fiona Lane opened the scoring, a neat touch in front of goal deflected the ball past the wrong footed keeper to make it 1-0 to Ipswich. Minutes later Lane chalked up her second, this time a superbly well timed run saw her reach the ball before her marker and she again deflected the ball wide of the stranded keeper.

Ipswich were now in control and as half time approached things looked good for the defending champions. The second half saw Sudbury step up a gear and ex-Ipswich player Trina Theobold thought she had reduced the deficit when she touched the ball into the Ipswich net. Much to Theobold disgust the umpire had not seen the touch and the goal was not given.  That was to be Sudbury’s last chance to make it back into the match as Ipswich dominated the play.

Second team rising star Emily Masson was proving to be a real handful as she attacked with vigour down the left hand side of the pitch and it was from one of these surging runs that she scored a superb goal. After collecting a good through ball, Masson dummied the keeper and then clammy slotted the ball into the waiting goal.

Kirsten Spencer wrapped up the game with a thunderous short corner strike to make it 4-0.

A hot, but happy, Ipswich team then saw out the last few minutes and were very pleased to claim title seventh title.

Thanks go to Kat Wrinch and Nareen Fenton for captaining both Ipswich teams and to Julie Spice for organising and also to all the umpires.

Trials weekend

The Men's 1's and 2's have a busy weekend, they are holding their trials on Saturday then travel to Chelmsford on Sunday for a tough friendly game against a side 1 division above them.

The Women's 1's have a training session on Saturday, while the 2's and 3's are also holding trails this weekend .

Then on Sunday a mixture of players from all teams in the club will play in the Suffolk Cup that is being held at the clubs Tuddenham Road ground. Ipswich have won the cup for the last 5 years and will be looking to continue that dominance.
