Women add 5th team as club flourishes

Due to the high number of payers, especially juniors who want to play hockey at Ipswich, the club has decided to run a friendly 5th team for the remainder of this year.

Aspiring Junior player Natasha Ingram, will Captain the team and is aiming to use the experience as part of her project for her A Level PE.   With the guidance of 4th Team Captain Nareen Fenton, Natasha will learn all about running a club team and the joys of Captaincy.

With the influx of youngsters starting to play and lack of team space - Natasha saw this as a great opportunity to develop her A level and also the Juniors playing ability.

King calls it a day

Following the European Nations Cup in Dublin in August in which England won a bronze medal, the England and Great Britain forward, Leisa King, has announced her retirement from international hockey.

Leisa won her first cap in 1997 and has been a regular member of the England squad since that time.

During her international career Leisa won 125 caps; 106 for England and 19 for GB, scoring 44 England goals. She played in a number of major international tournaments including the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 where she was a silver medallist.

Leisa In action for England in the KT Cup 2004

Said Women’s Coach Danny Kerry “Leisa has been one of the most exciting players England has ever produced, and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to work with such a talented athlete during my tenure.

Leisa brought fun and laughter to the group, but underneath this exterior she has always been a real competitor on the pitch. Her diving reverse stick deflection goal against New Zealand in the Champions Challenge to finish off an excellent team move this summer typified her skill and desire. Replacing such a talent in the squad will not be easy.”

Press Release England Hockey

Leisa has been the leading player at Ipswich Hockey Club for the last 8 years and she has been a true credit to the club.

Congratulations Leisa on all you have achieved.  While we will miss seeing your hockey skills light up the International stage, we look forward to seeing you shine for Ipswich for many years to come.

1's suffer mirror loss but Women have Cup cheer.

The Women's 1's will rue missed chances as they lost 6-1 to Olton. Even with the score line not reflecting the game it does not make it any easier for this Ipswich team to take.  A must win game against Clifton on Saturday is now the priority.  Sunday saw them take out their frustrations on Nottingham Highfields and they hammered 7 goals without reply past the EHL North team. The next round is 6th November.

The Women's 2's lost 1-0 to Norwich city in a close game but the team played well and can take a lot of heart from their performance.

On Sunday they travel to National League North leaders Nottingham Highfields for a 2nd round Cup game. Both games will be a real test of the desire and fitness of these 16 player strong squad.

The Women's 2's will be keen to keep on winning and this week they face Norwich city away. City like Ipswich won their first game last week.

The Men's 2's will aim for a 2nd win against 2nd placed Norwich City. The 3's will be keen to bounce back against Harleston Magpies 4's who sit one place below them in the table on Goal difference. The 4's also face a Harleston side, this time their 7th team and with both on 3 points it should be a good game.

The Vet's round things off with another game against Harleston vet's and after losing earlier on in the season they will be keen to claim revenge.

Feast of hockey but room for improvement

The Women's 1's drew 1-1 with Canterbury on Saturday and while relatively happy with a point away from home, were disappointed to gain only another point on Sunday.  They fought back in the last minute to claim a 3-3 draw against Doncaster.

The Women's 2's hard a tough introduction to life in East Div 1 South with a 5-1 loss to Wisbech.

The 3's also suffered a heavy defeat 7-4 to Lowestoft, However their was positive news from  the 4's who drew with Felixstowe 2's away on grass!
