Women
add 5th team as club flourishes
Due to
the high number of payers, especially juniors who want to play
hockey at Ipswich, the club has decided to run a friendly 5th
team for the remainder of this year.
Aspiring Junior player
Natasha Ingram, will Captain the team and is aiming to
use the experience as part of her project for her A Level PE.
With the guidance of 4th Team Captain Nareen Fenton, Natasha
will learn all about running a club team and the joys of Captaincy.
With the influx of youngsters starting to play and lack of team space
- Natasha saw this as a great opportunity to develop her A level and also the Juniors playing ability.
This new

with the hope of bringing in this 5th team into the league in

King
calls it a day
Following
the European Nations Cup in Dublin in August in which England
won a bronze medal, the England and Great Britain forward,
Leisa King, has announced her retirement from international
hockey.
Leisa
won her first cap in 1997 and has been a regular member of the
England squad since that time.
During
her international career Leisa won 125 caps; 106 for England
and 19 for GB, scoring 44 England goals. She played in a
number of major international tournaments including the
Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 where she was a
silver medallist.

Leisa
In action for England in the KT Cup 2004
Said
Women’s Coach Danny Kerry “Leisa has been one of the most
exciting players England has ever produced, and I am grateful
that I had the opportunity to work with such a talented
athlete during my tenure.
Leisa
brought fun and laughter to the group, but underneath this
exterior she has always been a real competitor on the pitch.
Her diving reverse stick deflection goal against New Zealand
in the Champions Challenge to finish off an excellent team
move this summer typified her skill and desire. Replacing such
a talent in the squad will not be easy.”
Press
Release England Hockey
Leisa
has been the leading player at Ipswich Hockey Club for the
last 8 years and she has been a true credit to the club.
Congratulations
Leisa on all you have achieved. While we will miss
seeing your hockey skills light up the International stage, we
look forward to seeing you shine for Ipswich for many years to
come.

feeling glad all over
The Men's
1's finally got of the mark against Cambridge University,
running out 3-1 winners to move themselves up to 6th place in
the EHL South League. Then on Sunday they took apart fellow South Div team Oxford Hawks
9-2 to make the 4th round of the Cup. The Men's 2's
lost 3-2 to Wisbech and dropped off the pace into the middle
of the table. The 3's also recorded a loss, going down
3-1 to Norwich
City 2's. The 4's carried on with thier good form witha
0-0 draw against Bury St Edmunds 4's .The Vets also
recorded a draw, 3-3 with Colchester at home.
The
Women's 1's finally tuned in a gritty performance to earn
themselves 3 points with a 2-1 win over Clifton. The win moves
them up into 7th place, just 2 points off 4th spot.
The
Women's 2's and 3's had a weekend off due to
a break in the East League for half term.

1's
look to get back on track
The Men's
1's face a tough weekend of hockey. Saturday sees them
travel to Cambridge to play the University and they know that
with both teams on 1 point they need to take the win. On
Sunday they welcome fellow South Div team Oxford Hawks to Tuddenham
Road (14.00) for a 3rd round cup clash. The Men's 2's
are flying high in 2nd place and will want to continue their
winning run with 3 points over Wisbech. The 3's will
also be keen to keep up their momentum as they face Norwich
City 2's. The 4's high on a great league win last
weekend face Bury St Edmunds 4's in a derby clash. The Vets
will be anxious to get back to winning ways as they tackle
Colchester at home.
The
Women's 1's know that they need the 3 points against
Bottom side Clifton and only a good performance is acceptable.
The
Women's 2's and 3's have a weekend off due to
a break in the East League for half term.
The 4's
though cannot wait to get into action as they look for another
win against IES 3's in a local derby clash.

1's
suffer mirror loss but Women have Cup cheer.
The
Women's 1's will rue missed chances as they lost 6-1 to Olton.
Even with the score line not reflecting the game it does not
make it any easier for this Ipswich team to take. A must
win game against Clifton on Saturday is now the
priority. Sunday saw them take out their frustrations on
Nottingham Highfields and they hammered 7 goals without reply
past the EHL North team. The next round is 6th November.
The
Women's 2's lost 1-0 to Norwich city in a close game but
the team played well and can take a lot of heart from their
performance.
The
3's were well beaten 5-0 by a determined Colchester
side.
The 4's
beat grasshoppers 2's a great result considering the
only had 10 players in the second half.
The Men's
1's also went down 6-1 against leaders Havant but
played well and know they can build on their performance. The Men's 2's
dispatched Norwich City 5-3 to climb up to 2nd place. The 3's
also got back to winning ways beating Harleston Magpies 4's
6-3. The 4's finished off Harleston 7's th winning 3-1.
The Vet's
unfortunately came unstuck losing 2-1 to Harleston vet's.

Women
face double header as Men look for first win.
The
Women's 1's will be looking to bounce back after last
weeks poor result but will find tough opponents Olton standing
in their way. On Sunday they travel to National League North
leaders Nottingham Highfields for a 2nd round Cup game. Both games
will be a real test of the desire and fitness of these 16
player strong squad.
The
Women's 2's will be keen to keep on winning and this week
they face Norwich city away. City like Ipswich won their first
game last week.
The
3's will be keen to get a win under their belt but they
face a tough game as play unbeaten Colchester at home.
The 4's
are back in action with their 15 player strong squad and will
fancy their chances against grasshoppers 2's.
The Men's
1's face a tough encounter with league leaders Havant
and with short corner specialist Callum Giles in their oppositions
squad they will be keen to to give him to many opportunities.
The Men's 2's will aim for a 2nd win against 2nd placed
Norwich City. The 3's will be keen to bounce back against
Harleston Magpies 4's who sit one place below them in the table
on Goal difference. The 4's
also face a Harleston side, this time their 7th team and with
both on 3 points it should be a good game.
The Vet's
round things off with another game against Harleston vet's
and after losing earlier on in the season they will be keen to
claim revenge.

Men
and Women 1's suffer from not taking chances.
The Men's
1's again had to suffer disappointment as they outplayed
Plymouth but came home with no points losing 4-3..
The Men's 2's lifted the spirits as they got their
first win 5-3 over Long Sutton . The 3's however could
not keep the wins going and lost 3-0 to local rivals IES . The 4's
playing their first game of the season will be disappointed to
lost 4-3 Norfolk Nomads
away.
The Vet's
showed us how it should be done, beating Chelmsford 7-1 at home
on Saturday and on Sunday destroyed Lincoln 6-1 in the HA over
40's Cup.
The
Women's 1's also suffered Derby Disappointment losing
6-4 to Chelmsford..
The
Women's 2's though like their male counterparts got their
first win of the season beating Dereham 1-0.
The
3's though suffered another hard week losing 5-1 to UEA away.

Men
face long journey south as Women have Derby game
The Men's
1's make the 600 mile round trip to Plymouth this weekend
and know that they are more than capable of getting a win. Their
opponents were hammered 10-3 last weekend by Birmingham University.
The Men's 2's face Long Sutton, who won last week 3-2.
After their high scoring loss last week the 2's will be keen
to get a win..The 3's face local rivals IES at home and
with both sides recording good opening weekend wins this is likely
to be a good match. The 4's
will be looking forward to getting a game this week after their
opponents conceded last weekend. They face Norfolk Nomads
away.
The Vet's
have a tough first league game against Chelmsford at home
and then on Sunday host Lincoln in the HA over 50's Cup.
The
Women's 1's face the short journey to Chelmsford for a
tough derby game. Both teams will be keen for the win. Ipswich
welcome Australian Carly Eastman into the squad.
The
Women's 2's aim to bounce back after last weekends loss
but they face another stern test in the shape of
Dereham. Dereham won 2-1 last week.
The
3's too will be looking to get that first win as they
play UEA away. Finally the 4's will play an interclub
game as they have a free weekend in the league fixtures.
A
tough weekend for all teams, with a couple of derby games in
the mix to spice things up.

Feast
of hockey but room for improvement
The
Women's 1's drew 1-1 with Canterbury on Saturday and while
relatively happy with a point away from home, were disappointed
to gain only another point on Sunday. They fought back
in the last minute to claim a 3-3 draw against Doncaster.
The
Women's 2's hard a tough introduction to life in East Div 1 South with a
5-1 loss to Wisbech.
The
3's also suffered a heavy defeat 7-4 to Lowestoft, However
their was positive news from the
4's who drew with Felixstowe 2's away on grass!
The Men's
1's started life in the national League with a 2-2 draw
against Oxted. Like the Women they were disappointed with their
draw after outplaying their visitors for the Majority of the
game. The Men's 2's lost by the odd goal in 11 as they
went down 6-5 to Bury St Edmunds away. The 3's destroyed Norwich Union 3's,
5-1 though to get the only win of the weekend.. The 4's
game against Norwich Union 4's was canceled by the opposition
so the 4's were awarded the 3-0 win.
The Vet's
went down 4-1 to Harleston
Magpies.
