Ladies 1's aim to end 2003 on a win, as they say goodbye to Spencer.

The 1's face Leicester at home on Saturday knowing that this is the last chance to claim a win in the first part of the season. With it also being defender Kirsten Spencer's last game the team are even more keen to get 3 points. Spencer, who has played in the National Premier League since it started in 1989, is leaving sue to PhD commitments. She will however continue to play for the 2nd team when time allows.

The 2's after a weekend off are raring to go against Canterbury 2's. Boosted by the return of Sophie Sheldrake the team know they will have to work hard to get all 3 points.

The 3's aim to bounce back after a heavy loss as the fact 2nd bottom team Boston at home. With no relegation from this league the game should be an open affair.

The 4th's on the back of a good draw last week face Mildenhall who are 1 point behind them.

The 1's have one last shot at glory in 2003, with Spencer leaving is it fate that this could be their weekend?

Men's 1's  bounce back with good win

The 1's needed a good win and that is exactly what they got as they bea Bishop Stortford 5-2 at home on saturday.

The 2's on the back of a great win face Norwich City and again need a win to move out of danger.

The 3's marched on and recorded a fine 4-0 win against Old Southendian 2's to keep them top of the table.

The 4's lost 3-1 to Upminster 2's but put in a brave performnce.

The 5's play Rochford casual after their week off and like the Ladies 1's are looking for their first win.

The vets match v Dereham was canclled.

The 3's still show the rest of the club the way but the 1's joined the 3 point party.

New East League women's Division for 2004

The League will expand to include a Division 2 Central next season. This will reduce travelling at Division 2 level, and ease the transition for clubs moving from County League to East League.  In order to create the new 12-team Division, there will be no relegation from 2S or 2N at the end of this season, and there will be two promotions from each of the County Leagues (Cambs, Essex, Kent, Lincs, Norfolk, and Suffolk) and one from the Five Counties League.  East Premier champions will of course be automatically promoted to EHL and there will be no relegation from EHL. Altogether these changes create a net gain of 12 teams by the East Women's League.

The allocation of teams amongst 2C, 2N, and 2S will depend on the geographical mix season by season.

U15 Girls get away tie in 3rd round

The U15's have been drawn away to Essex team Saffron Walden on the 14th Dec. With Saffron Walden beating Eastcote 9-0 this should be a hard match for both teams.

24th November 2003

U15 Girls beat Norwich as U18 bow out to Harleston

Congratulations to the U15 Girls who beat Norwich City 6-1 in the first round of the Cup. The win was a real team effort in horrible conditions. The next round is Dec 14th

The U18 girls put a up a brave fight against Harleston and at 1-0 down at half time were still in the game. Harleston stepped up the tempo though to run out 6-0 winners. The team now enter the plate competition with the next round on the Dec 14th.

24th November 2003

Ladies 1's taste another defeat

The 1's travelled to Sutton looking for the win but came away tasting another disappointing  defeat. The loss was even more frustrating to take as Ipswich had several clear chances to take at least a point. Ipswich now have one last outdoor game against Leicester at home before Xmas. A win here would be the perfect present for a team that has worked so hard and been so close.

The 2's were due to face Dereham but the torrential rain made the Tuddenham rd surface unplayable and the game is due to be re-played on Jan 10th.

The 3's suffered a heavy 6-1 loss to Cambridge City 2's which saw their opponents jump over them into 7th place.

The 4th's bounced back from last weeks loss to claim a point against Bury 3's. A much improved performance all round.

The 1's again suffer from not converting chances but good to see the 4's getting back on track.

24th November 2003

Men's 1's suffer heavy loss to slip into relegation zone

The 1's slipped to 2nd bottom in the league with a 7-2 defeat against Bedford. Leading 2-0 the team will not be happy at the final result and must pick themselves up to move out of danger,

The 2's got their 2nd win of the season  beating Long Sutton 4-2. Other results did not go their way though and they still sit in a relegation spot but if they can turn in a result like this on a regular basis they should be moving up soon.

The 3's grabbed another win 2-1 against Havering to remain top of the league and claim a 6th consecutive win.

The 4's played Witham 2's and will be disappointed to lose 2-1 in a close game.

The 5's game was a victim of the weather and was postponed.

The vets continued on their winning steak beating Cambridge city 4-3.

The 2's delivered the necessary win but unfortunately the 1's could not follow suit. The 3's again provide the highlight and are the clubs most successful team this season by a mile. Well done!

King of the cars!

NEW MÉGANE FOR RISING OLYMPIC HOCKEY STAR

With the help of local Renault dealer Bristo’s, Ipswich’s international hockey star Leisa King can concentrate on winning a place on the Great Britain squad to play at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.

The Woodbridge Road dealership has given Leisa the use of a superb five-star safety rated new Renault Mégane 1.6 Hatch for the year – which could be one of the most important in Leisa's career.

She is currently in Australia with the England squad, warming up for the Champion’s Trophy play-offs, a competition for the top six hockey teams in the world. The Australian trip also serves to help players acclimatise to the Southern Hemisphere ahead of the Great Britain Olympic team qualifiers, which take place in New Zealand in January 2004.

Leisa has one of the highest goal-scoring strike rates of any England player, in addition to making regular appearances for Ipswich Hockey Club, and was nominated as one of the ‘World Hockey 11’ – a team of the best hockey players in the world – by the sporting press last year.

Her UK training schedule includes regular trips to the National Sports Centre at Bisham Abbey near Marlow in Buckinghamshire – trips which can now be made in style and comfort thanks to the New Mégane from Bristo’s.

Bristo’s Dealer Principal Ian Head, said: “It’s fantastic to have a player of Leisa’s international standing here in Ipswich and I think it’s important for a local business like us to put our support behind her. We wanted to help Leisa perform at her very best for the Olympic competitions next year. We all wish her the very best with the competition in Australia and the qualifiers in New Zealand in January.”

The Mégane family now has five models – Mégane Hatch, Sport Hatch, Sport Tourer, Sport Saloon and Coupé-Cabriolet. All share the same family traits of innovation and originality as the pioneering New Mégane, which took the automotive world by storm in 2003, winning ‘Car of the Year’ and Autocar’s ‘Design of the Year’ awards. The three latest arrivals, Sport Tourer, Sport Saloon and Coupé-Cabriolet,  also share the same safety features that earned both New Mégane Hatch and New Scénic 5-star safety ratings in Euro NCAP crash tests.

For more information about the Mégane family range of cars or to book a test-drive, contact Bristo’s Renault, 301 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, or call 01473 719221.

Ladies 1's face nearest rivals

The 1's are looking to bounce back after last weeks disappointing losses. Sutton are 5 points ahead of Ipswich and the Suffolk side know that anything less than a point here would see them firmly stuck at the bottom of the table.

The 2's will be looking to get back to winning ways as the face Dereham at home. Dereham are 4th in the table and will prove a hard test for an inconsistent Ipswich side.

The 3's look to build on their good win as they face Cambridge city 2's away in Cambridge. 3 points here would keep them near the top half of the table.

The 4th's need to pick themselves up after a big loss last weekend and face Bury 3's. A win for Ipswich would see them leap frog Bury in the table.

No doubt the pressure is really n for the 1's and 2's but both sides are more than capable of getting vital wins this weekend.

20th November 2003

Men's 1's need win to move out of danger

The 1's are just sitting outside of a relegation spot and know that they need all 3 points against Bedford on Saturday.

The 2's play Long Sutton and face a tricky match against this mid-table team. A win is necessary though if they want to stay in touch with safety.

The 3's march on and will be looking to consolidate their lead at the top of the table. With 3 teams all on 9 points it is the 3's superior goal difference that sees them top and they will have to be alert to Havering 2's threat as they are only 5 points behind the leading pack.

The 4's play Witham 2's who are 2 points behind them and after last weeks heavy loss will be looking to claim 3 points to move them up the table.

The 5's play Maldon and Badow 3's and after another loss last weekend they will need to be in top from to gain points here. Team spirit is high though and the 5's will give it their all.

The vets on the back of a 8-0 win face Cambridge City. A win is forecast.

The 1's and 2's like the Women need wins to move them up the table but it is the 3's that are creating the most interest with their impressive form.

U15 Boys flying high in RAF Cup

The U15 Boys downed Norwich city 5-1 on Sunday to advance into the next round of the RAF Cup. It was a great team display and you can read the full report in the match report area or on the Junior news page.

17th November 2003

Ladies 1's face double whammy

The 1's played 2 hard match's and despite working have nothing to show for their efforts. A 3-1 loss to Slough at home was disappointing because Ipswich only really got going in the 2nd half and did not put in their best performance. Sunday saw the team travel to Trojans for a Cup clash and despite putting the home side under enormous pressure Ipswich's lack of goal scoring form again cost them dear going down 2-1. Sitting bottom of the league with only 2 points so far, things are hard for Ipswich at present but the team are determined to keep fighting .

The 2's after such a good display last weekend slumped to a 4-0 loss to Harleston 2's. This loss sees them back in a relegation spot but with only 3 points separating bottom and 8th place the team are still capable of climbing up with a good win.

The 3's back in action got a well deserved 2-1 win against a tough Bourne team. The side now sit safely in the mid table.

The 4th's came down to earth with a bump after last weeks 8-1 win suffering an 8-0 loss!

How all the teams would love to find the key to consistency this season. The 3's being the only high point of another hard weekend.

17th November 2003

Men's 1's miss out again as 3's keep on winning

The 1's could not get that winning feeling on Saturday, losing 3-1 to Cambridge University. The team are now in danger of being sucked into a relegation battle as they only sit 2 points from safety,  so will be looking to get back to wining ways very quickly.

The 2's lost 2-1 to Old de Ferrians and are now 3 points from safety.

The 3's continue on their winning run beating Ramgarhia 5-1. With other results not going their way the team are still joint 2nd two points behind leaders Southend

The 4's suffered a heavy loss losing 10-0 to Ford but are still sitting mid table.

The 5's lost 11-1 to East London 2nd team who are now 7 points ahead of them and they will need to start winning to get themselves out of trouble.

The vets awaiting result.

Well done to the 3's for keeping up their wining run, the rest of the club again like the Ladies will be looking for some consistent results.

Ladies 1's look for double celebration

The 1's face a hard double header weekend as the take on Slough at home on Saturday the  travel to Southampton on Sunday to take on Div 1 leaders Trojans in the Cup. All teams are now without their GB players until Xmas at least so both Slough and Ipswich will be missing key players. After a good point last week the win is the home sides target.

The 2's on the back of their great victory over league leaders Letchworth last week, travel to Harleston to play the bottom side. The 2's need the win to keep them out of relegation danger.

The 3's will be looking to get back into action after last weeks disappointing withdrawal and have a strong team to face 3rd placed Bourne.

The 4th's look to build on their good win as they face Lowestoft 2's who are level on points with the Ipswich side.

2 wins out of 2 for the 1's would be a highlight but the aim his week is to go one better and get all teams back with a win.

13th November 2003

Men's 1's face high flying students

The 1's looking to bounce back after a loss last week face a hard match against the 2nd placed students. The students have only lost once and beat Ipswich in the Cup so form points to them but Ipswich are a talented squad that can beat anyone on their day. Points are needed to avoid a relegation tussle.

The 2's play Old de Ferrians who sit mid-table and they know that they need the points to move out of the relegation zone.

The 3's on a winning streak play Ramgarhia who sit mid-table. The 3's know that they cannot afford any slips up in the pursuit of the title.

The 4's play Ford who are only 4 points ahead of them and will want to get back to winning ways.

The 5's play the nearest team above them in the guise of East London 2's but with 7 points between them the Ipswich side will know that they really need to get the win to claw their way back into this league.

The vets play Chelmsford away in a tough local encounter.

Some vital wins need this weekend for all teams, hot money is on the 3's marching on.

10th November 2003

Ladies 1's claim second draw of season as 2's down leaders

The 1's travelled to Hightown knowing that this was the time to stand up and show their worth. In a tight game the Suffolk team did themselves proud against a team that were one of the  title favourites. While happy for the draw Ipswich know they are capable of getting a win and will be looking to take 3 points against old rivals Slough at home on Saturday, before they head off to Trojans for another hard Cup game on Sunday.

The 2's turned the tables of league leaders Letchworth battling hard for a fantastic 2-1 victory. A real credit to the team that has suffered so many changes but has really started to find it's feet.

The 3's unfortunately had to pull out of their game v Lincoln and thus went down to a 3-0 loss.

The 4th's took revenge for last weeks heavy loss to Felixstowe 1's with a 7-0 thrashing of Felixstowe 2's.

A great weekend for all playing teams and hopefully the turning point for the 1's and 2's. A real show of the Ipswich battling spirit well done to all.

10th November 2003

Men's 1's lose out in 7 goal clash

The 1's faced Chelmsford 2's and lost out 4-3 in a tight game. A disappointing loss and the team will need to bounce back quickly to move up the table and away from any relegation issues.

The 2's faced Broxbourne and lost 3-0 to see them slip back into a relegation spot.

The 3's beat Dunmow 1-0 to keep themselves in 2nd place on goal difference and brought home the only points for the Men this week, something of a habit this season.

The 4's facing 4th placed Thurrock almost got a point but went down 1-0  with a good display.

The 5's played  mid table Brentwood 4's and lost 3-0. They are now 7 points adrift from safety and will need 3 points very soon.

The vets match was cancelled.

Well done the 3's again, the only points on the board.

7th November 2003

Ladies 2's face Wimbledon 2's in new 2nd team Cup

At last the EHL have organised a National knockout competition for English National League Clubs 2nd team's.  On the Women's side 13 Club have entered, with 5 of the clubs having 1st teams in the Premier League. There were some surprising omissions, Canterbury and Harleston who both play in East premier disappointingly deciding it was not for them. Early favourites are Wimbledon as they lead the Premier Division in the South League after winning the title last year.

Ipswich actually face the London club in the first round to be played at Tuddenham Rd 12 noon, Sunday 8th February 2004. This will be a tough test for the Suffolk side but will give both teams an opportunity to play different league opposition.

Registration rules are rightly tight with 11 1st team players nominated that cannot play ensuring that regular 2nd team squad members benefit from this competition.

With the finals to be played in conjunction with  the EHL Cup finals all sides will be looking to make sure they take the honours of the first ever winners of the 2nd XI Cup.

6th November 2003

Ladies 1's aiming High, as 2's face leaders

The 1's travel to Hightown aiming to get their season back on track. Training was aimed at crucial areas and if they get them right 3 points is not out of the question.

The 2's so close to claiming a point last week face league leaders Letchworth. A hard game but the squad is getter better with each game.

The 3's look to build on their good win as they travel to Lincoln.

The 4th's look to take revenge on Felixstowe 2's and with only 3 points separating the teams it should be a close match.

Some difficult match's for teams but a win for the 1's would inspire the rest of the club.

6th November 2003

Men's 1's look to recover form.

The 1's face Chelmsford 2's  who sit 4 points ahead of them in the table and know that they cannot afford anything but the win.

The 2's face mid-table Broxbourne and will want 3 points to climb out of relegation danger.

The 3's sitting in a promotion place face 3rd from bottom Dunmow but must not get complacent in face of their great 11-1 win last week.

The 4's face 4th placed Thurrock and will want to get back to winning ways.

The 5's face mid table Brentwood 4's and with no points yet but several good performances the Suffolk side will be looking for some points.

The vets play Cambridge South and are keen to keep on winning.

Wins needed by all teams, let's hope the3's are not the only ones in the points this week.

5th November 2003

Ipswich Keeper selected for England U18 Training Squad

Ipswich 2nd team keeper George Pinner has been selected for the England U18 Training Camp. The camp will run from 19th to the 21st December at Bishop Abbey National Sports Centre.

These camps will be the final stage of the Talent Identification process for the year.  Training groups of 20 athletes will then be selected to move forward for selection to the final squads (16) for the Four Nations Tournament at Easter.

Good luck.

3rd November 2003

Ladies 1's fall again, but 3's get winning feeling

The 1's again will look back at missed chances and what might have been after this 3-1 loss to Canterbury. Despite creating several chances Ipswich again did not make the most of them and sit at the bottom of the table on 1 point.

The 2's went so close in getting a result in this close match. In fact a disallowed goal robbed them of a well deserved point. A much better team performance and something to build on. Good solid debut also from 14 year old Bethany Golding.

The 3's bounced back after last weeks loss to record a 2-1 win over Long Sutton. A great team performance.

The 4th's knew they would be in for a hard game and 2nd placed Felixstowe did not disappoint hammering 8 goals with only 1 reply past Ipswich.

Even though there is only 1 win it is really pleasing to hear about so many good performances. Hopefully we have turned the corner and can inspire the 1's to a victory.

3rd November 2003

Men's 1's suffer double woe as 3's hit 11.

The 1's back in action lost out narrowly to league leaders Croystx 2-1 and slipped to 7th in the table.. To add to that disappointment the team then went down 5-2 to Cambridge Uni in the Cup on Sunday.

The 2's after losing 5-0 to Wisbech are now 2nd bottom and 3 points away from safety.

The 3's turned in the performance of the day hammering 11 goals past Romford. they are now in 2nd place and vying for promotion.

The 4's faced unbeaten Saffron Walden 2's and went down 5-2.

The 5's faced Saffron Walden 3's and went down 5-0. Maybe not a fair score line but the loss sees them 6 points away from safety at the bottom of the table.

The vets travelled to Pelicans and ran out comfortable 6-2 victors.

Disappointment for the 1's as any hope of promotion seems to be slipping way. Congratulations to the 3's for a fantastic performance and of course to the ever green vets.
