What the EHL changes mean to Ipswich

This coming season (04-05) will see the Ladies 1's competing in a 12 Team Premier League. At the end of the season the bottom 2 teams will be relegated back to Division 1. The 10th placed team will then enter a play off with the the winner of Div 1 (the winner to play in Premier for 05-06) the 9th placed team will enter a play off with the runner up of Div 1 (the winner to play in Premier for 05-06).

The following season 05-06 will see a 10 team Premier League with, at present, 1 team relegated back to div 1 at the end of the season.

For the Men 04-05 regional winners will be promoted into a North or South Div 2 for the 05-06 season. This will initially be two 10 team divisions  but in 06-07 it becomes a two 12 team divisions.

As you can see it is vital that the Ladies finish in the top 8 this coming season to avoid any relegation issues and after last season disappointing performance they know that they have some hard work to do over the summer.

For the Men the rewards are rich if they can win the East Premier League and progress into National League.

The most disappointing aspect of this restructure is the lack of foresight to allow 2nd teams into National League. Again this has been side stepped even though it is becoming an increasingly important issue.

U18's realise Cup dream

The U18's became the first Ipswich Junior team to win a National Competition on Saturday as they beat Beeston 6-2.  It was a  great team performance and one in which all the players can be proud. With only 2 players ineligible to play next year this side have a very good future ahead of them. Several players already play National League hockey for Ipswich and it surely won't be long before more follow suit.

Hopefully this will be the start of more Junior success at Ipswich and will give the U15's something to aim for when next season starts.

Congratulations to the team the Club is very proud of you all.

Thanks also to all who came along to support and to the coaches and Management team, Richard Pittaway, Jo Gray, Vic Sandall and Donna Mills.
