Cup and Plate draw updates

After a mixed bag of results in the Cup last weekend the next round of draws sees Ipswich have to play 3 away fixtures on Sunday 19th December.

The Boys U15 side are the only ones left in the main competition and they have they only home draw against Norwich City. The Girls U15 have a first round plate draw away at Dunmow. The U18 Boys play Old Southendians away, while the U18 Girls face Tring away.

23rd November 2004

Cup results

Sunday saw the Girls U15 lose 4-0 to  Norwich City away in the Cup, while the U18 lost 2-1 v Dereham despite being camped in the oppositions circle.. The U15 boys thrashed Chelmsford 11-2 , while the U18's suffered a heavy 10-3 defeat to Chelmsford at Home.

Some good results for the top 2 sides, with the weather hitting the lower teams. A great win for the boys U15's, the remaining sides will look forward to the plate competitions.

8th November 2004

Suffolk and East updates

Under 15 girls  Manager & coach Pete Glading assisted by Allison Glading and Debs Golding.

Unfortunately lost 1 -0 to Essex in a game we should have at least earned draw. Essex scored with a cruel deflection from a penalty corner just before half time, we thought we had equalised in second half when Emily Masson converted only for the umpire to award a penalty corner!

The second match was against Lincs, we dominated the game and ran out winners, 2 - 0, scorers were Maddie Persent and Isobel Watts.

Ipswich juniors playing were Beth Golding, Emily Masson, Isobel watts and Miranda Walters.

Suffolk Boys under 15, playing in Cambridge, won 6 - 0 against lincs and then in a very exciting game defeated Cambridgeshire 6 - 2.

Ipswich juniors playing were Ben Glading, Ed Youngman, Josh Cutting, Sean Collins. Will Hearne, Alex Bond and Owen Cook..

Pinner makes England U18 Assesment squad

Ipswich Men's 1st team keeper George Pinner has been selected in the NATIONAL U18 MEN’S ASSESSMENT CAMP 1  - to be held on FRI 26 – SUN 28 NOVEMBER 2004, at BISHAM ABBEY NSC.

These camps will be used to select the England squads for 2005 when their programme includes the Under 18 European Championships in July and the annual Invitational Tournaments involving the U16 & U18 squads from England, Spain, Netherland and Germany at Easter.

Suffolk U17 League

Ipswich v Lowestoft

Sunday 24th October

Lost 7-2 (F Warden, S Collins))

Ipswich U17 Girls went down 7-2 to a strong Lowestoft team in the Suffolk U17 league. With stand-in keeper Jordane Challenger-Thompson playing her first match in goal the Lowestoft forwards gave her little chance.

The score however, did not reflect the match. The young Ipswich side played good hockey and took the game to Lowestoft through good movement and close passing, frequently getting into shooting positions, but the experienced Lowestoft defence never gave Ipswich any easy opportunities. Ipswich tried hard all through the match with good performances by all the team, in particular Jen Duffy, Danielle Kaye, Sinead Collins, Beth Scott, and Lucy Ramsden.

As the game went on Ipswich managed to put pressure onto the visitors defence forcing a number of short-corners which resulted in two well worked goals, from Frances Warden and Sinead Collins. So although Ipswich lost, they fought well right to the end and came out of it with a lot of credit.

Suffolk U17 League

Ipswich v Christchurch

Sunday 17th October

Won 4-2 (M McWhirter (2), L Ramsden)

A really good game with good play by both sides. Ipswich went 3-0 up after goals from Millie McWhirter (2) and Lucy Ramsden, and looked to have the game under control. Christchurch then came back and scored two quick goals from close range to close the gap. Half-time: Ipswich 3 - 2 Christchurch.

In second half the Ipswich girls took the game to Christchurch. It was surprising that there was only one further goal, scored by Millie to crown a well deserved hat-trick, as the play was end-to-end with many goal-mouth incidents. Special mention must go to Octavia (Lucci) Trevor, who volunteered to be goalie and made two excellent saves which
kept Christchurch out.

Overall, an excellent result following a very good team performance.

Under 15 (ie Year 10 and below, boys born on or after 1.9.89)

The first matches are on November 7th with a subsequent set of matches on November 28th.  There will be a trial on Friday October 1st at Tuddenham Road astro (formerly Ipswich Ladies), Ipswich from 6.00 pm until 9.00 pm.  Contact Ian Reed (Manager/Coach) on 01473 401138 (h) if you require further details.

Under 14 (ie Year 9 and below, boys born on or after 1.9.90)

The first matches are on October 3rd with subsequent matches on October 17th and November 14th.  We have already attempted to circulate details of the first trial (which was due to take place at Ipswich School’s astro, Westwood, Constitution Hill, Ipswich on Sunday September 19th from 10 am until 1 pm) to all those who attended last year’s U13 trials.  A second trial will take place at the same venue on Sunday September 26th also from 10 am until 1 pm.  Contact Charles Farrow (Manager/Coach) on 07811 336895 for further details.

Under 13 (ie Year 8 and below, boys born on or after 1.9.91)

The tournament is not until April, but in view of the fixture congestion during the second half of the season the trials will again be held before Christmas.  There will be a preliminary trial on Sunday 7th November from 10 am until 12 noon at Framlingham College.  The most promising players at this session will then be invited to a final trial on Thursday 11th November from 6 pm until 8 pm, also at Framlingham.  Boys who played in last year’s U12 Suffolk squad should attend the second of these trials but not the first.  Contact Carlos Reynell (Manager/Coach) on 01728 685170 (h) or 07799 620824 for further details.

Under 12 (ie Year 7 and below, boys born on or after 1.9.92)

The tournament is in April – as yet we do not have a confirmed date.  There will be a preliminary trial at Woodbridge School on Sunday January 16th 2005 from 10 am until 1 pm.  All those interested are asked to attend this trial, including those invited to play for last year’s U11s.  Contact Richard Thorley (Manager/Coach) on 01473 602753 (h) or 01394 615069 (w) for further details.

The Under 11 boys have a tournament in March.  The squad will be picked by invitation (based on discussions with school/club managers and performances in the mini hockey championships).  In Suffolk we have decided to start trials at under 12 – we feel that open trials at under 11 are not appropriate.
