(h) or 01394 615069 (w) for further details.
The Under 11
boys have a tournament in March.
The squad will be picked by invitation (based on
discussions with school/club managers and performances in the
mini hockey championships). In Suffolk we have decided to start trials at under 12 – we
feel that open trials at under 11 are not appropriate.

U18's
realise Cup dream
The
U18's became the first Ipswich Junior team to win a National
Competition on Saturday as they beat Beeston 6-2. It was
a great team performance and one in which all the
players can be proud. With only 2 players ineligible to play
next year this side have a very good future ahead of them.
Several players already play National League hockey for
Ipswich and it surely won't be long before more follow suit.
Hopefully
this will be the start of more Junior success at Ipswich and
will give the U15's something to aim for when next season
starts. Congratulations
to the team the Club is very proud of you all. Thanks
also to all who came along to support and to the coaches and
Management team, Richard Pittaway, Jo Gray, Vic Sandall and
Donna Mills.

Girls make National Final
Ipswich U18 girls make first National final
Ipswich had expected a tough clash with Blackburn Northern this weekend at
Henley Rd, in the semi final of the National U18 Girls Cup Plate Competition, however their opponents could not raise a team and Ipswich progress to a Junior National final for the first time in their recent history.
The final will be against either Beeston or Teddington and the game will take place at Harleston Magpies ground, alongside the U18 Cup and U15 Cup and Plate competition on Sat 15th May.
The Ipswich team is full of promising youngsters non more so than the core of the side; Amy Tippen, Hannah Golding, Charlie Anderson, Vanessa Roberts and Laura Peskett. 3 are regular 1st team payers and there is no doubt that their added experience will be vital in the final.

22nd December 2003
Match results
RAF Cup Boys U15
Ipswich 5 (2)
- 2 (0) Harleston Magpies
(Ipswich Scorers: Phil Messent 2, Rob Hauxwell 2, Doddi Davies)
An excellent game. From the off Ipswich looked the more confident side and took the game to Harleston. It was no surprise when Phil Messent opened the scoring with a fine strike
from a short-corner after only 8 minutes. Ipswich were even more jubilant when Doddi Davies scored with a sharp hit
from the edge of the circle after good approach play. The match was then end-to-end with Ipswich unable to capitalise on further opportunities, whilst at the other end good solid defence from the likes of Nick Olding, Ollie Cutting, and Ed
Youngman kept Harleston at bay.
On one occasion a fine drive and pass from Nick Olding created a scoring opportunity for Sean Collins but he was unable to get his shot away.
Early in the second half Harleston scored from a short-corner but within minutes Phil Messent put away a loose ball in the Harleston goalmouth to keep the two goal margin.
Harleston pressed forward with England hopeful Tibbenham and Lawson
prominent but Ipswich held firm helped by excellent shadowing from Messent and quality goalkeeping
from Ben Glading. When the game looked like it could turn against Ipswich, central defender Tom Davey kept his composure, distributing the ball intelligently to keep possession;
one such pass from Davey split the Harleston defence and Rob Hauxwell raced away to get the first of his two goals, the other following shortly after when Sean Collins set him
free. Ipswich could have gone further ahead when Hauxwell found Greame Warden in the 'D' but his shot was charged down by the keeper. Harleston pulled one back towards the
end of the game but by now Ipswich were controlling the match. James Pugh, Josh Cutting and Will Hearne all played significant roles in turning solid defence into enterprising
attack. Everyone played a significant part in a notable win that was achieved through good support play and by playing as a team. This was a confident performance by a good Ipswich
side.
RAF Cup Girls U15
Saffron Walden 10 - 2 Ipswich
(Ipswich Scorers: Alex Baylor, Danielle Kay)
A tough game for Ipswich against a strong Saffron Walden side. Alex Baylor and Danielle Kay got the Ipswich goals and it could have been more but for the excellent goalkeeping
of Frances Warden. Ipswich put up a fight and made it difficult for the opposition but in the end the inexperience told. This was a young Ipswich side so something to build on for
next season.
RAF Plate Girls U18
Ipswich 12 (7) - 0 (0) Cambridge City
(Ipswich Scorers: Vanessa Roberts 3, Amy Tippen 3, Hannah Golding 2, Sinead Collins, Bonnie Hatcher, Jo Hatcher, Charlotte Anderson)
A hatfull of goals with two hat-tricks saw a full strength Ipswich see off an inexperienced Cambridge side. This was just the tonic after the previous game against Harleston when
Ipswich, short of key players, were knocked out of the cup.
Special thanks to Judy Wright, Steve Cooke, Pete Glading and Keiron Bromley for umpiring.
Also to Jo Gray for looking after the U18s and acting as taxi, and to Kath MacDonald for travelling to Saffron Walden to cover for Jugs who wasn't
available.
The Boys U15 and Girls U18 teams now go into the next rounds to be played on February 22nd 2004.

8th December 2003
U14 Suffolk Girls (Coach
Pete Glading, Assistant coach Allison Glading)
Ipswich has 2 girls in the squad Bethany Golding and Emily
Masson. Both Emily and Beth joined Ipswich this year and are
already making their mark in the club. Beth has become a regular
part of the 2nd team squad and Emily is hoping to do the same now
her Saturday school fixtures have finished. They also are part of
the Ipswich U15 team that are in action in the 3rd round of
the Cup on Sunday.
The U14 team beat Herts 3-0, Bethany scored twice, other scorer was Isobel Watts
and then beat Lincs 2-1, with 1 goal each from Bethany and Emily.
We must now wait until Feb for next round of matches.
Congratulations
girls.

Ipswich 3
- 3 Sudbury
Ipswich scorers: George Payne (x3)
Ipswich 0 - 2 Felixstowe
Ipswich prevented from scoring by good young GK.
U13 Girls:
Ipswich 0 - 1 Sudbury
Ipswich had all the pressure but could not score; Sudbury scored a soft goal.
Ipswich 4- 0 Felixstowe
Ipswich scorers: Anna Sherring (x2), Frances Warden (x2)
Against an understrength Felixstowe side Ipswich easily won the match and would have got more goals if not for another solid GK.

Ipswich scorers: Josh Godfrey (x3), Josh Fry (x2)
Ipswich went on the rampage. Good passing hockey created good opportunities which were buried.
Ipswich 6 - 1 Felixstowe

With Felixstowe fielding several U11's Ipswich easily won the match, but they had to earn there victory and some fine team goals saw them

Match Report Boys U15
A good quality game which was keenly fought throughout. Norwich City started the better and put Ipswich under early pressure. Then, just as Ipswich were starting to turn the game in their favour and create chances they went a goal down to a penalty corner after failing to clear the ball out of defence.
Ipswich struck back immediately, the ever lively Robbie Hauxwell got away from his marker and slid the ball wide of the advancing keeper to equalise. This was followed shortly after by a second when Phil Messent beat several players and drove into the 'D' to lay the ball off for Hauxwell to score.
Ipswich were deservedly 2-1 up at half-time after playing good hockey and creating many good chances in open play and from penalty corners, Tom Davey saving one off the line in defence and having his shot saved ont he line at the other end. With Norwich playing well in defence and looking threatening in attack Ipswich had to keep concentration.
In the second half the game opened up with end to end hockey. Ipswich got an early advantage when Norwich failed to clear a goal-mouth scramble and Phil Messent put away the loose ball, 3-1 to Ipswich. Then for a good ten minutes Norwich be-seiged the Ipswich goal, and only excellent saves from Ben Glading in goal, and good clearances from Ed Youngman, Tom Davey and Josh Cutting kept the Norfolk team at bay. Ipswich also had to re-organise when Ollie Cutting was replaced following a rib injury after a good game at right back, but was ably replaced by brother Josh.
As the game wore on Ipswich regained their composure through Ben Gallagher, Will Hearne, and Nick Olding down the left and Sean Collins and Doddy Davies down the right. Good vision by Josh Cutting in defence freed Rob Hauxwell who took the ball wide of the defender and slotted home from the edge of the area.
With Norwich now restricted to a counter-attacking game Ipswich pressed for more and it was no surprise when Hauxwell got free once more and squared the ball for Greame Warden to claim the fifth goal. Ipswich kept pressing forward and came close when a fine strike by Ben Gallagher went just wide of the post but by now they had the game wrapped-up.
All in all and excellent team performance, everyone worked hard and supported each other both in attack and defence. The team now look forward to the next game on December 14th.

Weather stayed fine, but cold, for some good hockey. Felixstowe and Ipswich came in numbers and made full use of the 15 mins each way to

teams played good hockey and had progressed since last years fixtures. Having 3 teams worked well and gave everyone chance to have a game.

Suffolk U14 Boys retain East Trophy
The U14 Suffolk boys went to wet and windy Greshams School Holt, Norfolk
on Sunday 2nd November o play the final 2 matches against Herts and Lincolnshire.
Suffolk needed to win both games to ensure victory and
it was pleasing to see that they achieved this with two 3-1 wins to finish top with 5 wins and 1 draw. Goals scored 17 against 5.
Cambs were runners up winning 5 and losing only to Suffolk. Whilst the flowing hockey was missing they ground out two excellent results and
it was pleasing to confirm that the 7 Ipswich players in the squad made significant contributions to the overall victory.
This meant that Suffolk retained the trophy, once coach Charlie Farrow
remembers where it is !
Well done to all and thanks to Pete Glading for keeping
this site up-to-date with the information.

U14 Boys keep getting better
Playing yesterday in Watford at the home of West Herts, the Suffolk boys took an impressive 4-0 lead before relaxing in the final stages, conceding 2 goals and then Will Hearne confirmed victory in the dying seconds for a 5-2 victory. The second game was against Cambs who had won both games last week. In a very tense game that could really have gone either way the Suffolk boys dominated the second half and secured a win in the last 5 minutes from a well worked short corner.
The squad now goes to the final weekend on November 2nd at Greshams to play Lincs and Herts.

Boys
U15 go through to Cup 2nd round
v Dereham won 5-4 (ET)
U15 Boys beat Dereham 5-4 after extra time (Greame Warden 4 goals, Doddy
Davies). In the RAF U15 Boys Cup, Ipswich went behind against the run of play but 2
quick goals by Greame Warden and Doddy Davies put them ahead by half-time.
In the 2nd half Ipswich eased to 4-2 and looked in control of the game until
one of the Ipswich defenders was sin-binned. Dereham capitalised and pulled
back to 4-4. It was end-to-end until the end of full-time with both sides
having good chances to take the match.
In extra-time Ipswich re-organised and took control of the game once more.
The opening came when Ollie Cutting found Greame Warden unmarked who slipped
the ball past the advancing keeper to score the winning goal, and his fourth
of the match.
