Ipswich legends line up for action

Sandie Lister, Vickey Dixon, Annette Strange and Karla Waddleton are all part of an East squad that will play in the inaugural Womens Regional Veterans tournament, to be held at Cannock HC on Saturday & Sunday 1,2 July.

The tournament looks to build on the popularity of the Womens Veterans Club tournament  for players aged 35 or over. It is the brainchild of Deb Wilkes, the hardworking  manager of the Owls team, who is a member of the England Hockey Veterans Group. The tournament will be used to select players for an England over 45's side to play in an international invitational tournament in Germany during the Mens World Cup.

Ipswich players make up a majority of the East team and with Lister also coaching and captaining the team the East will be looking for a good set of results.

Back Row L to R : Will Fulker, Ben Gallagher, Toby Lever, Tony Burch, Sam Tyler, Asif Rais, Geoff Reed

Front Row: L to R: Emma Millar, Issy Sheldrake, Kathryn Wrinch, Lizzy Aldous (Cpt), Annie Brosher, Lucy Gallagher

Their semi final against Spencer was a close affair in the first half with the score level at 2-2 but Ipswich stepped up the pace and ran out comfortable 4-2 winners.

Sunday saw them face Holcombe and Ipswich expected a tough test from the national League club. Starting very well the Suffolk team just had too much ability for their rivals and ran out 8-0 victors.

With a mixture of 1st, 2nd  and 3rd team players there was a great spirit in the side and the weekend was enjoyed by all.

A superb first season for the mixed team and a Massive amount of credit must go to captain Lizzy Aldous who put in a lot of hard work.
