Ladies
aim for 3 points to bounce back after Cup defeat.
The 1st team travel to
Sutton, looking for a repeat of their 3-1 victory when these two teams met
at Tuddenham Road. A win could see them right back in the fight for a play
off spot.
The 2nd's are back on
the road this week, traveling to Gillingham to take on Anchorians. A
repeat of 4-0 victory at Ipswich would see the 2nd's keep chasing for the
title.
The 3rd's take on Old
Buckenham and will be looking for revenge for their 5-0 loss, a win is a
must to get them clear of relegation issues!
The 4th's confident
after their draw last week take on IES 2nd's and after only losing 2-0 in
the reverse fixture will be looking for that all important first win.
Finally the 5th's take
on Christchurch 2nd's and they too will be looking to get revenge on a
side they lost to 4-0 in November.
The key match is the Ladies
1st's, a win is necessary to keep them in with a shot of the end of year Play
Offs, something that they have been in every year since their conception.

Men
want to get back to winning ways
The 1st team take on
Colchester at home this weekend and will want a win to rid them of the disappointment
of losing 4-0 last week to local rivals Harleston.
The 2nd's take on
Pelicans and with the season nearing it's conclusion are very aware that only
a win will do if they wish to win the title.
The 3rd's take on
leaders Wapping and a win here will see them close the gap at the top and
keep them in a promotion spot.
The 4th's are desperate
to get back to winning ways and take on Witham 2nd's at home.
The 5th's have a derby game
against Chelmsford 4th's and will want to continue their good winning run
and repeat their 3-2 win earlier on in the season.
The 6th's take on
Redbridge and Ilford 4th's and too will be looking for a repeat of their reverse
fixture win.
Finally the Vet's take
on Dereham away.
Match of the day could be the
3rd's game against leaders Wapping. The reverse fixtures gave the Men a
clean sweep in November, let's hope more of the same for this weekend.

Ladies
1's get league point, but crash out of Cup to Slough.
The 1st's
should have had 3 points on Saturday but let visitors Leicester grab and equaliser
with seconds to go. Sunday also ended in disappointment, after
finally surrendering their grip on the cup to Slough in a 3-2 loss. England
striker Jane Smith scoring a hat-trick as Ipswich battled hard but could
not just get the final break.
The 2nd's got back
to winning ways in style, whipping Chelmsford 2's 6-0 to keep the heat on
leaders Letchworth.
The 3rd's at last got 3
points, securing a 3-0 win at the expense of St Ives.
The 4th's were
finally rewarded for all the hard work with only their second point of the
season, as the drew 2-2 with Christchurch.
The 5th's took on Bury
3rd's and even though they lost 3-0 it was a much better performance
and shows how they have improved since the 7-0 loss in November.
Disappointment for the 1st's as
they still look for their first win of 2003 in the league and also as they
finally surrender the Cup title to another team. The positive's are that
they are playing some excellent hockey and the wins will surely come if
they can keep working hard.

that now moves pat them into 2nd place.
The 2nd's are chasing
the league title hard and recorded a 5-2 win against Havering.
The 3rd's took on the
4th team won 3-0 in a keenly fought game.
The 4th's battled
hard but could not repeat their goal scoring against the 3rd team and went
down 3-0

GB Coach annuoncements
Taken
from the Times
TRICIA HEBERLE
will head the Great Britain women’s quest for an Olympic medal after the
England coach was yesterday named as team leader for the Athens 2004
squad. Heberle will be joined by Mike Hamilton, English Hockey’s
performance director, who will lead the men’s side.
The Great Britain Olympic Hockey Board has spent the past six months
trying to sort out the positions and, after a number of postponements, has
finally made up its mind.Heberle was the obvious candidate, having
transformed the fortunes of England’s women since her appointment in
2001, culminating in a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in
Manchester last year.
However, the
posting represents a considerable success for Heberle, who played for
Australia at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, as she made it clear that
she would accept the job only on her terms. This meant ignoring the
politics of having to field a proportion of players from each of the home
nations
.Heberle said:
“I am very honoured to accept this position and to have the opportunity
to develop and bring together a potential GB women’s medal-winning
outfit.
”Hamilton,
who was born in Bridlington, has yet to lead an international team, having
been assistant coach to both the men — at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992
— and women — at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and the Commonwealth
Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.Hamilton, who warmed up for the appointment
by leading England’s men in a two-match series in Belgium this month,
said: “GB men have a tradition of playing to their potential in Olympic
campaigns and athletes and staff in the three home countries are aware of
the hard work and commitment required if GB are to be medal contenders

13th February 2003
Ladies
1's have league and Cup double, as 2's want a winning tonic.
The 1st's have a
really tough weekend, firstly taking on Leicester. The previous fixture
saw a 2-1 win to Ipswich but this fixture is always a tough one and
the home team will have to be at their best to get all 3 points.
Sunday sees them tackle Slough
in the Cup Quarter final. Ipswich are defending Champions and
will not surrender their trophy lightly but Slough are top of the league
and will prove a stern test. Ipswich however will be looking to take their
chances and keep the visitors on the back foot.
The 2nd's will want
to make up for two losses by getting a good win against bottom team
Chelmsford 2nd's.
The 3rd's take on St
Ives 2nd's and will want a repeat of their 4-2 win to get them out of the
relegation zone.
The 4th's play
Christchurch and after a narrow 2-1 loss last time can maybe get their
first win of the season.
The 5th's take on Bury
3rd's and will be wanting to avoid another heavy loss to a side that beat
them 7-0 in November.
The Cup game looks the
highlight this weekend, will it be another Slough v Ipswich
classic?...........be at Tuddenham road at 12 pm noon Sunday to find out!

20th February 2003
Men's
1's look for 7th win against Harleston, as 2's chase title
The 1st's on a 6
game winning streak take on Harleston and will want revenge for a 4-2 loss
in the first part of the season. Ipswich are on top form and a win would
see them move into a clear lead in 2nd place.
The 2nd's tackle
Havering and will be looking for a repeat of their 3-0 victory back in
November.
The 3rd's take on the
4th team and will be aware that they only narrowly won last time round. They
need a win here to keep them in a promotion spot.
The 4th's having had a
bad run of late would dearly love to get back to winning ways at the
expense of the 3rd team.
The 5th's take on
Havering 3rd's and will want more than the 1 point they gained last time.
The 6th's play Felixstowe
4th's and a high scoring game is on the cards after a 3-3 draw in November.
The Vet's take on
Broadland to keep up their winning run.
A win at Harleston would be the
icing on the cake for the 1's as they have made a remarkable move up the
table form the relegation area.

13th February 2003
Ladies
1's get a point in Bristol, as 2's fall again
The 1st's may
feel that they should have got the win but after losing to Olton last
weekend it was good to get back amongst the points. A hard double header
next weekend will be a real test.
The 2nd's fell to a
hard working Canterbury 2's and saw Letchworth move 3 points ahead in the
battle of the East Premier League. Missed chances again leading to the
second loss of the season.
The 3rd's too lost 2-1
to a Lincoln side they had hoped to beat. Relegation is a real worry and
the side will be looking for a win next week to get them out of
trouble.
The 4th's took on a
hard Bury 2's and lost 3-0, considering they had major changes to the side
it was a very good performance.
The 5th's could not
repeat the earlier win against Sudbury 3's and lost 1-0
A very disappointing weekend
for the Ladies with only 1 point gained from 5 match's. Next weekend sees
hard match's all round with wins being a real necessity for all teams.

17th February 2003
Men's
1's win 6 in a row, as 2's beat IES to send them bottom
The 1st's even
though not playing at their best, sent 6 goals past a hard working
Peterborough 2nd's. Ivan Smith's first hat trick of the season was the
ground rock for the success and will send the team into next weeks clash
with Harleston Magpies in high spirits. The two teams are tied in
2nd place at present 10 points behind leaders Crostyx.
The 2nd's tackled a
resurgent IES side in the local derby but came out 3-2 winners, to keep
them in 2nd place just 1 point behind leaders Bourne. IES sit at the other
end of the table in last place..
The 3rd's are still in promotion
winning 2nd place despite only getting a 2-2 draw against Brentwood
3's
The 4th's lost 4-0 to Up Minster
2's and need to get a win to pull away from the relegation zone.
The 5th's went down 4-0
to a strong Dunmow side that is top of the table.
The 6th's won by the largest
margin, hammering Brentwood 6's 7-0 to jeep them in 5th place.
The Vet's finally got to
play a match and beat Bedford 4-2 in a good well fought game.
So almost a clean sweep for the
Men in a weekend of pretty positive performances.

13th February 2003
Ladies
1's boosted by Internationals as 2's look to bounce back
The 1st's travel
to Clifton knowing that they need to get back to winning ways. The reverse
fixture saw Ipswich win 2-1 and the Suffolk side would be more than happy
with that result again. The squad is boosted by the return of South Africans
Anli Kotze and Kate Hector and if the side plays like it did against Olton
on Sunday then a win is on the cards.
The 2nd's take on
fellow 2nd teamers Canterbury 2's and know that it will be a hard match.
Aiming to get over last weeks defeat the team will need to be sharp to get
all 3 points against a resurgent Kent side.
The 3rd's travel to Lincoln
knowing that a win is needed to get them away from any relegation issues.
They won 2-0 last time and would be happy for a similar result.
The 4th's tackle Bury
2nd's in a very hard match and will be looking to grab a point.
The 5th's take on
Sudbury 3's and will be looking to repeat their 1-0 win in the reverse
fixture.
The 1st's hopefully will get a
needed win ahead of next weekends Cup clash with Slough, while the 2's
will want to keep up their title challenge.

|
13th February 2003
Men's
1st's aim for super 6
The 1st's take
on Peterborough 2nd's and after a 4-0 win last time will fancy their
chances at home. Another win would be 6 in a row and would send the team
into next weeks Harleston match full of confidence.
The 2nd's take on local
rivals IES in what could prove to be an intriguing game. IES even though
fighting relegation are in the middle of a min-revival while the 2nd's
lost last weekend and need the win to keep their leaguer title challenge alive.
The 3rd'stake on Brentwood
3's and will be aiming for a repeat of their monster 7-1 win.
The 4th's will be
looking for that 2003 win and may find it hard going against
Upminster2nd's who they went down 4-2 in their previous meeting.
The 5th's take on high
flying Dunmow 2's and will be looking to get revenge for their 4-1 loss.
The 6th's are back in
action, taking on Brentwood 6's and both sides will be looking for a win
after their previous 2-2 draw.
Finally the Vet's take on
Pelicans.
The 1st's should stay on track
but the match of the weekend has to be the local derby between our 2's and
IES, it could be make or break for both sides.

10th February 2003
Men's
1st's march on as other teams have mixed fortunes.
The 1st's keep on
winning and another 4-2 victory this time against Cambridge city sees them
in 2nd place in the league. A great performance and one that bodes
well for next season.
The 2nd's like the
Ladies could not find a win and went down 4-0 to a strong Dereham
side.
The 3rd's boosted by
1st team striker Simon Miler, who is returning from a nasty shoulder
injury ran out 6-1 winners against Sudbury 2nd's to keep them on track for
promotion.
The 4th's still cannot
get a win, losing 3-2 to a strong Saffron Walden side
The 5th's battled hard
for a 2-2 draw having been 2-0 down.
The 6th's did not play.
A good win from the 1st's and
the 3rd's but the 2nd's and 4th's will need to get back to winning ways
next weekend to keep on track for promotion and away from relegation
respectively.

10th February 2003
1st
team Ladies only get 1 point as 2nd's finally lose unbeaten record
Despite playing some of the
best hockey seen at Tuddenham rd for a long time the 1st's will be
very disappointed in only taking 1 point from2 games. Saturday saw
the long trip to Trojans and despite beating the team 7-0 at the start of
the season they Suffolk side could only grab a 2-2 draw, after being 2-0 down.
Sunday saw a different performance, Ipswich were controlled, determined
and played with a renewed vigour. they took the lead through a majestic
reverse stick shot from Leisa King and a home win looked on the cards
until the final 15 minutes. Olton picked up on two costly error and
Ipswich again had to face defeat. With our 2 South African
Internationals returning for next weeks game and if the team keeps the
same level of play, a win against Clifton is a real possibility.
The 2nd's finally saw their
unbeaten record taken away and with it the clear lead of the Printwize
East Premier League. A 3-1 loss was hard to take especially as Ipswich
dominated the match but the side knows that the real test of their
character is this Saturday as the y aim to bounce back against Canterbury
2nd's.
The 3rd's weakened by
absence could not repeat their win against Bourne and went down 3-0,
putting them dangerously close to the relegation zone.
The 4th's played well
but went down 3-1 to Southwold 2nd's.
Finally the 5th's buoyed
by a new keeper lost 4-0 but this was a great improvement against a side
that last time beat them 10-0. Well done.
A really disappointing weekend
for all teams and one that none will want to remember. Next weekend should
see some improvement as absentees return.

6th February 2003
1st
team Ladies double header should yield minimum of 3 points
Determined to get back to
winning ways in the EHL Premier League Ipswich 1st's will be
looking to forward to their long trip to Southampton to take on bottom
team Trojans. Ipswich put 7 goals past the South coast team in their
first meeting at Tuddenham road and another comfortable victory here would
see the Suffolk team face Olton on Sunday full of confidence. Olton
took control of their last meeting, scoring 3 times in 10 minutes to run
out winners and Ipswich will want to make amends for their poor
finish. Still without their 2 new South African recruits, who are at
the Indoor World Cup, Ipswich have drafted in Lucy Philp, Emma Millar and Sarah
Juggins for the Sunday game. 3 points is a must and 6 points a real possibility,
and Ipswich know they will need all 6 if they wish to maintain a title challenge.
The 2nd's take on
nearest rivals Letchworth and are well aware that a win here would see
them move 6 points clear of the Hertfordshire team. This will be a real
test for the home side but with an unbeaten record and confidence riding
high a home win is on the cards.
The 3rd's travel to
Bourne knowing that they need a win to keep them clear of any relegation
issues and will be looking to repeat their 5-2 victory at the start of the
season.
The 4th's take on
Southwold, having gone down 3-0 in their first game this will be
keen to make amends and record their first win.
Finally the 5th's take
on Stour valley and will be hoping for a lower score line than the
10-0 one that they lost by last time.
A tough weekend for all the
Ladies sides but some good wins could see teams season really come into
focus.

6th February 2003
Men
look to get back into winning action as 3 teams push for league honours
After the snow of last week,
Ipswich 1st's will be hoping for warmer weather to see them record their
5th win on the trot. Having made a patchy start to their league campaign
they now lie in joint 2nd place, but look unlikely of catching runaway
leaders Crostyx who are 10 points ahead. The 1st's tackle Cambridge City
and after losing 4-2 in their first game will be keen to show how much
they have improved.
The 2nd's are chasing a
league win and though 2 points clear cannot afford a slip up against
Dereham.
The 3rd's sit in 2nd
place in Div 4 SE and will want to get all 3 points against struggling
Sudbury 2nd's.
The 4th's will want a
return to winning ways and to do the 3rd's a favour by beating third
placed Saffron Walden but it will be a tough match.
The 5th's tackle Old de
Ferrian 2nd's who are 1 point below them but know that a win here would
keep them in the promotion race.
The 6th's have had to pull
out of their game against Old de Ferrian 3rd's, losing a lot of
regular players to army duties in the Gulf.
Last but not least the Vet's
are due to play Waveney and record another huge win!
A possible clean sweep is on
the cards for the Men and with things very tight in several promotion
cases it will interesting to see how results pan out.

3rd February 2003
Home
draw against old rivals Slough for Cup quarter final
Ipswich got the home draw they
wanted but with it came probably the hardest tie of the round against
Indoor champions Slough. In what should be a thrilling contest
Ipswich will be aiming to nullify their opponents attack and especially
the threat of England striker Jane Smith. Slough themselves
will be wondering how to deal with Hockey player of the year Leisa
King and how both these England team mates play could decide the outcome
of this tie. Ipswich's newest recruits, South Africans Anli Kotze and Kate
Hector will be in the squad and it will be a new experience for the both
of them. Ipswich know that this will not be an easy match but with a large
home crowd expected the Suffolk side could have the edge.

3rd February 2003
Defending
Champs into Quarter finals at a stroll
A 5-1 victory saw Ipswich enter
into the quarter finals and looking forward to the hope of a home draw.
After the disappointment of losing
to Hightown, the team were determined not to give non-league Worcester
Norton any encouragement and started the game in dominant fashion. 2 quick
goals by Jo Ellis, sent the Worcester team the message that Ipswich
meant business and when Captain Kirsten Spencer then followed up with 2
goals of her own it was clear there would be only one winner. Norton to their
credit fought back in the 2nd half as Ipswich took their foot of the pedal
and claimed a goal that was well deserved. Ipswich though were happy with
their performance and are still dreaming of retaining the trophy they won
in May 2002.

3rd February 2003
Snow
causes chaos
Some of the heaviest snow showers
in Anglia for years cancelled all league games on Saturday and left all 10
teams kicking their heels. All games will have to be played in the relevant
slip dates, which in some cases will mean not until April.
With better weather forecast
for next weekend all teams will be looking to get back to into winning action.
