Jo Ellis v Germany at the World Cup 2006

Ellis joins  other athletes from England, Scotland and Wales in the first step on the road to Bejing 2008. The squad will leave for South Africa on Thursday 3 January for warm weather training, along with three internationals against South Africa at Stellenbosch on 8, 10 and 11 January at 1900hrs.

The downside for the club is that Jo will not be available to pay in the National league Indoor fixtures, but several other clubs are in the same boat and Leicester in particular are very hard hit losing 4 players.

The club are delighted to announce that a full fixture list has been confirmed for the new 5th XI for the second half of the season. It is now included within the club fixture list and you can view the fixtures here.

This should ensure that all our male members have an opportunity for a game every week. The team will be run by Andrew Mays and Paul Barrett.

Are you ready for the new rules?

Here you can read the rules of hockey 2007-2008.

Please note that the new Rules will be introduced to all hockey (in England and internationally) on 1st January 2007. Please make sure you are aware of the new rules, they effect everyone that is involved with the game. You can also read the briefing for umpires here.

Important Changes.

  1. The requirement to have a goalkeeper on the field at all times during play has been modified. The change permits teams more flexibility about what sort of goalkeeping option to adopt. It also takes account of the possibility that a team does not have a fully-equipped goalkeeper available or simply wishes to play only with field players. In relation to these changes, it is important to understand that a team either has a goalkeeper on the field (with full protective equipment or only with protective headgear) or is playing entirely with field players in which case no player has goalkeeping privileges.

  2. The note to rule 9.7 should also be studied carefully because it explains that a defender must not be penalised if they are genuinely trying to play the ball in a legitimate way when saving a shot at goal at any height.

  3. Associated with its review of goalkeeping options, the HRB also considered the ways in which a goalkeeper is permitted to play the ball. The changes reflected in rule 10.2 permit a goalkeeper more flexibility when defending their goal.

Women win first title of the year, as they beat Chelmsford to claim East Indoor Title.

The Women's 1's celebrated their second win over Chelmsford in as many weeks as they beat the current England Indoor Champions 6-2 in the final of the East Indoor Championships. With the EHL Indoor league starting in January Ipswich are very happy with their preparation and will enjoy their short Christmas break, knowing that they have claimed the Clubs first title of the year.

The Women's 2's beat Bourne 3-0 to move 6 points clear at the top of the east Div 1 North table. A superb first half of the season for the 2's who are looking good for a return to the Premier League next season.

The Men's 1st made the semi-finals of the East Indoor but lost 7-6 on penalty strokes to the eventual Champions and National League side St Albans.

The Men's 3's awaiting result

The Men's 4's played a friendly against IES 2's and came away with a good 2-1 win.

The Men's Vet's did not get a game at the weekend as Cambridge South pulled out of the fixture to see Ipswich awarded the 3-0 win.

Women and Men head inside, as Women 2's aim to move 5 points clear.

The Men's 1st travel to Rickmansworth for the East Indoor Tournament. Should Ipswich finish as the highest non-National Indoor side they could be playing Indoor National League hockey next season.

The Men's 3'shave a friendly against IES. IES are in the league above Ipswich and Ipswich are top of their league so this should be a good contest.

The Men's 4's also play a friendly against IES 2's.

The Men's Vet's play their last league game before Christmas against Cambridge South and will want to get back to winning ways after last weeks draw.

The Women's 1's travel to Bethnel Green for the East Indoor Championships. Ipswich were runners up last year so will be looking to try and go one better this year.

The Women's 2's finish 2006 with a re-arranged game against Bourne. A win would see Ipswich move 5 points clear at the top of the east Div 1 North table.

Women win Derby game and hit 8 in the cup as Men down St Albans to move out of danger

The Women's 1's enjoyed a 3-2 victory over Essex rivals Chelmsford on Saturday. Ipswich moved up to 5th place while Chelmsford dropped to 7th. It was a good first half performance from Ipswich that sealed the win. Sunday saw them beat Doncaster 8-5 in a topsy-turvy Cup game that again was a game of two very different halves.  Ipswich now travel to Slazenger EHL Div North side Liverpool Sefton for a Quarter Final tie on Sunday 25th February 2007.

The Women's 2's carried on with their winning ways with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Dereham.  With 1 re-arranged game to play before Christmas the 2's could go into the Christmas break 6 points clear at the top of the table.

The Women's 3's did not have a game

The Women's 4's could only manage a 2-1 victory over bottom side Felixstowe 2's but are more than happy with their unbeaten first half of the season as they sit 8 points clear at the top of the Suffolk Div 1 table.

The Men's 1st knew that they had to win against struggling St Albans and they did just that running out 3-1 victors. The win saw Ipswich move put of the relegation zone and gives the team a real boast as they prepare for the Christmas break.

The Men's 2's drew 3-3 with Dereham and were disappointed not to get the win.

The Men's 3's stay top of East DIV 3 NE with a 4-1 win over Harleston 4's.

The Men's 4's carried on their 100% record in East Div 5 NE beating Harleston 6's 4-0, to enter Christmas with a fantastic record.

The Men's Vet's lost their 100% record as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cambridge City. They still top the East table though by a good

Women face local derby game and then Cup tie as Men play biggest game for 2 years

The Women's 1's are looking forward to the Derby clash with Essex rivals Chelmsford on Saturday. With both sides level on 10 points the game holds vital importance if either side wants to stay in touch with the top two. Sunday sees Doncaster arrive at Tuddenham Road for a 4th round Cup tie and Ipswich will be looking for a similar performance that saw them win 4-1 away from home early on in the season.

The Women's 2's will want to end the season top of the table but face a tricky away game against Dereham.

The Women's 3's do not have a game.

The Women's 4's will be looking to hammer in the goals against bottom side Felixstowe 2's and maintain their grip on the Suffolk Div 1 league.

The Men's 1st welcome 2nd from bottom team St Albans on Saturday but with only 1 point separating the sides this game is vital. Both sides know that a win could ensure Slazenger EHL hockey next year and for Ipswich the stakes are even higher. Should the 1st tem get relegated then Ipswich 2nd team would also be relegated from East Premier A as clubs are not allowed 2 teams in that division. This is a must win game for the Suffolk side and is also the home team debut for new Aussie recruit Joel Reeves.

The Men's 2's play Dereham at home and will want to get back to winning ways.

The Men's 3's are riding high at the top of East DIV 3 NE and will want to continue that run against Harleston 4's.

The Men's 4's seem unbeatable in East Div 5 NE and welcome Harleston 6's to Henley Road.

The Men's Vet's also seem invincible and this weekend play Cambridge City.

Women come back home with a point, but Men miss out despite good performance.

The Men's 1st led 3rd placed Oxted 3-1 but could not hold on as Oxted's coach and captain Justin King powered in 3 short corners to help his side to a 5-3 win. A brave performance for the team and one that bodes well for coming games.

The Men's 2's lost 6-3 to 2nd placed Cambridge University.

The Men's 3's beat Felixstowe 4-0  to move 3 points clear at the top of East Div 3NE.

The Men's 4's thrashed Harleston 7's 9-0 to maintain their superb unbeaten run in East Div 5 NE.

The Men's Vet's also continue unbeaten winning 4-0 against Shefford and Sandy.

The Women's 1's travelled with only 12 players but came back from Bowdon with a 2-2 draw. A hard working performance that shows the strength of character in this squad.

The Women's 2's defeated Lowestoft 4-3 and had Leisa King to thank for supplying 3 goals and setting up the 4th. The win sees Ipswich stay top of the table as they head into their last game before Xmas.

The Women's 3's finished 2006 on a high as they beat Sudbury 2's 2-0. They sit in 3rd place, 1 point off a promotion spot.

The Women's 4's won 6-0 against East Bergholt and look set for promotion up to Suffolk Prem, even at this early stage of the season.
